Delhi Police spent Rs 161 crore on 34 signal jammers, but questions remain about how they are used and who oversees their deployment.
An @internetfreedom investigation found conflicting RTI responses, with key deployment records classified as “highly confidential”.
@DecodeInternet spoke to Vikram Raj of Internet Freedom Foundation about the gaps in accountability and what they mean for our right to communicate during protests.

A WhatsApp group created to help women reach a Delhi protest safely became the basis for a campaign of doxxing, rape threats and allegations of a terror plot.
The next morning, Delhi Police detained its admin, PhD student Vijeyta Rajbhar.
Here’s what happened. 🧵

Delhi Police detained at least 37 journalists. Beat a reporter with gun for not deleting footage. Grabbed many on camera.
Lawyers chased buses across the city. One argued for hours to free a minor whose Aadhaar the cop refused. Another’s car tyres were slashed outside a PS. ⬇️

At least 37 journalists were detained over two days. Phones were seized, footage deleted. Hours after the Supreme Court ordered that journalists “shall not be hindered in any manner,” a police officer said: “We haven’t read it.”

The brazen crackdown on journalists and lawyers by the Delhi Police. Read the meticulous reporting by @adrijabose on how the SC directives meant nothing to the cops who appeared to be working as per a plan to prevent any coverage. @DecodeInternet

When @ShivamHuman1 pitched this story, I was fascinated by farmers making reels singing bhajans to bags of urea.
They were not joking. Urea has become so hard to get that it's literally a deity now.

In Nov, 2025, @srijitofficial and I tracked Bangla Hunt's report on how garbage depot workers in Kolkata were hunted and branded as illegal Bangladeshis. BH reporters chased Rafiqul Sardar and demanded they see his voter card. During the same time, SIR was at its peak in Bengal.
A channel that stormed into slums, chased residents, and accused them of being Bangladeshi immigrants, got 15 million views — was being paid ₹22.5 lakh by the BJP.
The ECI expenditure filing for Bengal is now public. Wrote about it in my newsletter: decodemail.boomlive.in/p/cha…

The story that @SwastiChatterje reported for @DecodeInternet - about that same YouTube channel, in November.
We didn’t have the receipts then, we have it now.

In August 2026, an experiment using “frontier”, or cutting edge, artificial intelligence models went further than planned.
An AI agent (a system that performs tasks autonomously) fabricated online identities in order to pressurise a human to insert malicious computer code into software. The agents had been tasked with solving a cybersecurity challenge by human operators, but they hadn’t been instructed to do anything like this.
While AI agents can behave in unexpected ways, scenarios of AI independently wiping out humanity are far less plausible than they sound.

Anthropic has announced that future versions of Claude, its AI assistant, will embed an invisible watermark in the text they generate. The company says the measure is part of its effort to comply with the European Union's AI Act and make AI-generated content easier to identify.
The watermark is designed to answer one question: was Claude involved in producing this text? But privacy advocates and legal experts warn that the answer could set off a chain of further questions — who used Claude, when, and what else might that reveal?

Pushpo Biswas, 46, has lived in India her whole life. She may not be able to prove that she’s Indian and not Bangladeshi. She has an Aadhaar card, a PAN card, and a ration card, but none prove citizenship.
She is not alone. @DecodeInternet found 13.21 crore Indian births between 2000 and 2024 were never registered. That is over 20% of the total. In Bihar, 96.3% of births went unregistered in the year 2000 alone.
