On ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐ฏย of the five-day inaugural workshop "Well-being Alliance for Research and Policy (WARP)"ย in Thimphu last week, Dr. Revati Phalkey (@RPhalkey ), Director of @UNUGlobalHealth, moderated a panel discussion on Health Equity and Mental Well-being, bringing together leaders from government, academia, and clinical practice to explore how well-being has become a cornerstone of the health and development agenda in Bhutan.
The session featured Dr. Dasho Dechen Wangmo (@DechenwangmoM), Head of the PEMA Secretariat (@the_pema), Dr. ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ป๐ฐ๐ต๐ผ ๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ท๐ถ, Bhutan's first psychiatrist and Head of PEMA Rehab, and Ms. ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ป๐ด๐ฎ๐ ๐ ๐ก๐ฎ๐บ๐ด๐๐ฒ๐น, Assistant Professor and Programme Leader for Clinical Counselling at Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan.
The discussion highlighted Bhutan's leadership in Gross National Happiness philosophy and the work of the PEMA Secretariat in addressing psychological wellbeing for all. The panel highlighted that promoting well-being requires action far beyond the health sector, with education, employment, social protection, urban planning and the environment all playing a critical role in shaping healthier, happier, and more resilient societies.
The panel showcased Bhutan's journey in strengthening community-based mental health services, building a skilled mental health workforce through education and research, and fostering cross-sector collaboration to ensure that well-being is embedded across public policies and decision-making.
