‼️FINAL CALL — URGENT PLACEMENT NEEDED‼️ MOON DOG #A1299870 DALLAS ANIMAL SERVICES Moon is a 6-year-old, 109-lb intact male who is heartworm positive and needs a rescue, foster, or adopter able to continue his veterinary care. Owner surrender due to need for veterinary care Available 10/02 due to microchip verification hold Heartworm Positive Suspected hip dysplasia / severe arthritis. MEDICAL NEEDS The veterinary team suspects hip dysplasia, but they were unable to obtain hip radiographs because of his handling behavior. His bloodwork showed mild eosinophilia consistent with heartworm disease, with the remaining parameters within normal limits. He's taking prescribed medication for it. He also received his vaccines, flea/heartworm prevention, and Pyrantel. 📝Shelter Notes: Highly treat motivated, came to the kennel front with a wagging tail and knows how to sit on command.❤️ 9/30: Tail wagging when approached. He sat for treats and allowed the volunteer to touch his nose through the kennel bars. He was described as constantly wagging his tail and super calm.❤️ Playgroup: Moon was tolerant, allowed greetings, and was social in the yard with just a helper. OLD and LEFT BEHIND 😞Grandma Summer was rescued with her pups. She’s around 11yrs old … the pups all got reserved immediately but of course the old girl was left behind. I know many of you love the oldies so let’s share… let’s get her on a big donut bed watching movies with a calm loving human 🩷🙏🏻

When we heard the sad news that a neighbor had suddenly died, my brother and I went to see what had happened to the golden which had been his constant companion. She was nowhere to be found. We started to worry that she might have been stolen—we'd checked she hadn't been collected by a legitimate rescue. Eventually, to our great relief, about a mile from his home, we found her on a bench overlooking a lake, with his sweater slung over the back. She wouldn't leave. No amount of cajoling or delicious treats would persuade her. In the end we had no choice but to carry her. This was ten years ago today. She's lived with me ever since, with the old red sweater still in her bed. Kipling warned us not to give our hearts to a dog to tear. On day one it was already too late. Her former owner was only 39. Make a will and instructions for your pets, so they will be cared for if the worst happens.
