Sorry folks looking for my writing livestreams! I had a network outage in my area yesterday and it still appears to be ongoing so no YT sprints for today 😫
Writing livestream sprints are cancelled for today 😭 my internet is under attack by gremlins 👾👾👾and I can't get a stable connection. Rather than putting everyone through constant stop/starts, I'll be sprinting over in Discord → discord.gg/Vv7VNxbTZu
Sorry about the tech/audio issues on stream earlier, my Aussie broadband internet couldn't cope 😓 but the backup recording survived!
REPLAY video is up now: youtube.com/watch?v=4JWTVQTy…

Thanks to the disaster that is the Australian national broadband network, stream 3 is dead and does not appear to be revivable so I'll be sprinting in the Discord for the remaining time. discord.gg/Vv7VNxbTZu
Internet gremlins strike again!👾
My internet just completely died so am finishing the rest of sprint 1 hotspotting off my phone. Fingers crossed it'll get fixed later but if sprints 2 and 3 don't happen, you know why..

Indie Fantasy Fund 2024
—THE YEAR OF AUDIOBOOKS
If you have self-published a great book but don't have the funds to produce an audiobook...
Apply now!
It is literally so hot today that my terrible Australian broadband connection has melted and thus cut off stream 3 today. Sorry guys! Will be back tomorrow with more writing sprints.
A most excellent post on the behind-the-scenes of kickstarting a short story anthology! This (and the next part) is a must read for anybody thinking of tackling a project like this.
Want a look "behind the scenes" at the Kickstarter for The Advent of Winter? This public post on Patreon (anyone can view it) covers the funding goal and looks at shipping. The next post will look at some more data and the financial side of the project. patreon.com/posts/kickstarti…
No writing sprints for Sat 3 & Sun 4 Feb as I'll be offline, camping! Will be back on Mon 5 Feb with the usual triple sprints.
My opinion as an accountant: one of the best financial transparency reports in self-publishing. No lump sum disclosures here; sales numbers are broken down between paid sales, free downloads, and KU page reads.
Go check out James's books & the other posts in the series!
If you missed it, I dropped my numbers from my debut year. It is important to me to share my experience with others because I think transparency helps. Thank you to everyone who downloaded, purchased, read, talked about, and shared my books.

Some really great reflections on the start up costs of being a self-published author from @AGrimBastard.
Thank you for sharing!
The annual @SFFAuthor financial transparency post is up! LOOK AT THAT GROWTH 👀
~10x in revenue
~8x in profit
Congrats Zack on your incredible success—what a way to roll into 2024!
A wonderful deep dive from @JoaoSilvaWrites into what it takes to launch a book like Seeds of War. WITH NUMBERS. Not just the usual headline numbers about sales, but things like mailing list size and open rates.
2023: What a Year! In an effort to bring more transparency to the scene, here is my yearly publishing wrap-up, where I show a lot of my stats for the year and disclose some behind-the-scenes info.

Anyone rethinking trad, join us! My #SPFBO9 cohort's been running around doing collabs & cross promos because we know we're colleagues & a community, not competition—whilst our books are going head to head in a literal competition.
