Yeah. I mean, other than following the classical Resident Evil formula of starting as relatively grounded horror and gradually escalating into grotesque sci-fi insanity; featuring a bioweapon outbreak as the catalyst; taking place in Raccoon City; culminating in a secret laboratory; featuring zombies, infected dogs, and increasingly bizarre mutant creatures; having its protagonist start with a basic handgun and progressively acquire bigger and more ridiculous weapons; forcing him to scavenge for ammunition and conserve what little he has; making him rummage through drawers for supplies; confronting him with inexplicably elaborate locks; including typewriters, First-Aid Spray, Green Herbs, and other direct references to game items; occasionally switching into first-person and over-the-shoulder perspectives that mimic the games; sending him through rural environments, city streets, underground areas, a hospital, and finally a laboratory; having Umbrella scientists fucking around with biological weapons; and ultimately transforming its protagonist into a giant Bio-weapon that looks exactly like something you’d fight at the end of a Resident Evil game . . .
Yeah, other than all that, it barely had anything to do with the fucking games.
Resident Evil Movie Review
The words Raccoon City and Umbrella Corporation are said a few times during the movie and they are the only things that suggest its stated source material.
Throwing in random visual references to a Typewriter, First Aid Sprays and Padlocks does not make a Resident Evil movie.
What you get instead is a body horror movie featuring mutants out of an entirely different franchise, a nonsensical setting and a host of "characters" that make such bafflingly stupid decisions, that you feel nothing when they inevitably get killed by their own stupidity.
All wrapped up with frequent poor attempts at humour and an ending that's so bizarre and out of place, even in this nonsense movie, that you end up wondering what even was the point of following this character's journey.
If you think that this is a good Resident Evil adaptation or even a good video game adaptation.
Then you need to actually play Resident Evil and realise that this movie isn't even attempting to be Resident Evil or any kind of video game movie.
God forbid people don’t want to see people they like die, or turn into mindless flesh abominations. The scientists doomed the city by not curing Bryan, blaming victims of incompetent bio-weapon manufacturers is filthy work lmao
Can someone please explain why are we treating Bryan like a tragic hero when he literally became the reason the cure was lost? 😭
The scientists actually succeeded. They made the antidote. Bryan finally reached the one place where he could have been saved.
Then his infection took over, he killed the scientists trying to help him and the ONLY completed dose fell out of the building.
Bryan spent the entire movie trying to survive the outbreak… only to become the biggest obstacle to stopping it.
That’s not a heroic ending. That’s the most brutally ironic thing about the entire movie. #ResidentEvil
Perfectly encapsulates why RE fans aren’t creative, or empathetic apparently. Rather than whipping up a good ending for an imperfect but good-natured character, they fantasize about a fan favorite character killing him for a shitty cameo lol

I think Resident Evil, as a concept, functions far better as an anthology series.
RE9 is a 6/10 and it’s because Leon and Raccoon City are in the game. Grace and the care center could have carried the game if Capcom committed to it and didn’t pussy out and make the second half nostalgia slop in the boring grey RC ruins, just for guaranteed profitability.

Bryan turning to a monster is the correct ending and a chris/jill rocket would have made the movie worse, the whole point is you watched an npc become the boss.
If a real protagonist shows up at the last second, that stops being a tragedy and turns into a cutscene.
The 2026 RE movie understands the games better than the Anderson films and that is unpopular because it has no laser hallway and no Alice but Zach Cregger understands locked doors, voice notes and a monster that used to be a person with a name.
