Looking forward to this, and in general I have been continuously heartened by Canada's ongoing interest in the govtech sector.
Honored by the invitation to present the work of the @SocietyLibrary to over 2k Canadian government officials and discuss using AI to analyze massive-scale data. catalogue.csps-efpc.gc.ca/pr…

Sometimes we want to see/hear different points of view on the questions we have - personal, professional, or on current affairs. 👥
The @SocietyLibrary team made this little tool to see multiple views at the press of a button. We call it "Perspectives." Let us know if you want us to keep it around! 🔽
Another sweet byproduct of our civilization-scale mapping work! 🗺️

Political matters are complex. We need to build tools to make it easier to search for truth at the civilization-scale.
Check out the @SocietyLibrary Papers interface, which nests a dynamic wiki page for every sentence in an interactive briefing document.

Should X hide likes on posts? 🤔
We’ve used the @SocietyLibrary AI Debate Map tool to predict the main positions in this debate (see 🧵below).
Today is an experiment to see if it is worthwhile to create a central place to argue different POVs on X. Feedback on this format welcome!

It is not infrequent that I have to try and reframe people's misperceptions of why we use debate maps at the @SocietyLibrary. It's not because we want to make these maps 'a thing.' It's because 'debate-checking' is the logical end of 'fact-checking.'
If you are 'proving' one fact/premise/argument at a time, it's essentially cherry-picking. If you are searching for truth, it needs to be conducted in a manner that's maximizing the context of the inquiry space, so relevant arguments, counterarguments, evidence, etc. can be assessed holistically. Once you have done the work of debate mapping, it's very easy to see how one piece of knowledge can completely change the likely veracity and relevance of another piece of knowledge. If we're sincerely truth-seeking, we need to be as maximalist as possible.
Below is an example of just three layers of a debate map unpacked: it contains thousands of deduplicated, relevant points to consider on a nuclear policy issue. We made this by hand, and now we're automating with AI - which I think is going to be necessary if we want to be context maximalists.

➡️After the @Google @Gemini story about it resisting generating images of white people, it begs the question: What should the policies be regarding how AI generates images of people? There are many points of view and we don't shy from the controversy.

✍️This one has some references, too (really, just the beginning). This question was inspired from @OpenAI's Democratic Inputs to AI Governance Challenge.

Want to vote on the strength of arguments in the debate maps we built about the @beffjezos <> @NPCollapse discussion from @MLStreetTalk? Thanks to @KungFuMonica's request, now you can! Click on "agreement" on each node to add your input on an adjustable Likert scale! Thanks again @KungFuMonica, and please keep the requests and feedback coming (especially if you think other voter mechanisms would be preferred)!

The Society Library was invited to participate in the Congressional Hackathon. Our work will be presented onstage at the U.S. capital today. We couldn't be there in person, but thankfully @thorningmichael from @BPC_Bipartisan is stepping up to present on our behalf. Thank you so, so much!

Wow! We have received such an amazing response to our ED's latest talk at @fwd50conf. 📣 In it, she discusses #BigDataDemocracy, #BigDataDebate, & how to make more logical decisions at the local gov level by using models. Thank you for all the praise and for the platform, @fwd50!
Is an #openknowledge society the way towards #BigDataDemocracy and societal-scale deliberation?
One path to #IA2046 was also the path to an #OpenKnowledge Society. The @internetarchive was critical to this possibility. It was through their work that we took the step towards being an #OpenInformation Society, in which information was accessible so that groups like us could..
How could the Great American Debate program be possible in a closed knowledge society? In short - it really can't.
One path to #IA2046 was also the path to a #ClosedKnowledge Society, and frankly - the subversion of the Society Library. The @internetarchive was one of our most sincere & enduring partners, but to no one's surprise, the U.S. remained closed & it inhibited our mission entirely.
