"Hey lady! Stop making breakfast for your friends and neighbors!" the government bureaucrat barked.
"Hey bureaucrat! Can you explain what it is you think you're doing?" a Goldwater Institute attorney wrote, stepping in to stop this insane government overreach...

🚨 A HUGE WIN FOR ARIZONA SCHOOL CHOICE.
The @GoldwaterInst deserves tremendous credit for leading the legal fight that challenged the signatures behind the union-backed anti-ESA initiative. Goldwater filed the lawsuit questioning whether the campaign had submitted enough lawful, valid signatures to qualify for Arizona’s November ballot.
We were proud to stand alongside Goldwater, school choice advocates, and parents across Arizona throughout this fight.
The unions spent millions trying to roll back educational freedom. They failed.
Thank you to the attorneys and team at the Goldwater Institute for taking this fight to court and standing up for Arizona families. Their full breakdown of this victory is worth a read.
Protect Education is OFF the ballot. Arizona school choice lives to fight another day.

VICTORY! In a major victory for school choice, the Arizona Supreme Court has ruled that Proposition 212, the anti-school choice measure funded by out-of-state special interests, failed to turn in enough valid signatures to appear on this November’s ballot.

They should give an "anti-Pulitzer" to the NYT for the Platner story. All the reporters involved should be fired.
The NYT deliberately published a hit piece on a victim of abuse in order to run cover for a man with a Nazi tattoo
I actually understand why Democrat leaders didn't take our stories seriously when the Times reported them in June but are taking them seriously now.
It was by design.
The line most shared from the piece was the claim that the Times “could not corroborate” my story despite talking to two of my friends.
I gave them the contact information for five friends.
They called the two who I clarified would not know about the abuse but would be able to affirm our relationship timeline, events, etc.
They simply did not call the other three.
I also gave them the names of all my former roommates who remembered him stalking our row house (which was about 5 houses down from his) and waiting for me to return. I gave them screenshots of messages between these roommates and I discussing it.
I gave them the names of other men I dated who might have remembered him following us around the hill and showing up on my stoop after we walked home from dates to confront us. I gave them emails to my landlord urgently ending my lease and moving to an apartment across town and diary entries talking about it - all time marked.
I told them that during pre-marital counseling I had spoken to my ex-fiance about the abuse because I had to explain to him why I reacted with such terror any time he lost his temper. They said oh NO we don't need to bother HIM (or my priest). Besides, I had written about it in my diary in detail, they reassured.
As the weeks dragged on I stopped trying to give them evidence because the amount I had already given them seemed to overwhelm them and I thought it meant they clearly had more than enough to verify my every claim.
My friends might not have known the details of the abuse, but they affirmed that yes, I had told them that he was abusive—long before he ran for Senate.
Besides, they assured, my part in their reporting would be small. I thought my details would only serve to affirm Jenny and the other anonymous woman.
Jenny and I - having never met or spoken - both shared with these reporters terrifyingly similar details of intimate partner violence, coercive control, and cycles of abuse/love bombing. The third unnamed woman in the story did as well.
But tell me again how they “could not corroborate.”

I try to stay pretty even-keeled on air, but was pretty aghast at the way the allegations against Graham Platner were being dismissed.

A bad-faith CPS report is one of the worst things you can to do someone. And it is wild how rights can be trampled on so little predication once you get into family law realm, where a lot of it runs on vibes, w predictably bad results. Good people suffer, bad actors off the hook.
Some things about our child protection regime strike me as impossible to square with the Bill of Rights. How can the government possibly be able to tell someone he can't be alone with his kids based on anonymous double hearsay, even temporarily? petebuttigieg.substack.com/p…

Transmission rates in many states were increasing before the rise of #DataCenters.
Why?
Because we retired tons of baseload electric generation capacity when everyone wanted to go green & shift to non-baseload intermittent resources.
It is also because we haven't invested in a lot of advanced transmission technology because utilities mostly make $ by building & rate basing new transmission rather than improving & modernizing existing transmission to improve efficiency.
To be clear data centers are increasing demand, BUT if we had more capacity on the grid & modernized transmission, the price spikes would be far less.
#Energy
This is a great example of how we quickly pin blame on the new bogeyman ("Big Rich Tech Corporations!") instead of focusing on the root problem.
Two years ago, the same grid monitor wrote: "One of the key challenges facing the PJM markets is the potentially high level of expected thermal resource retirements between now and 2030 with no clear source of replacement capacity."
What created that situation? Policy choices that pretended we could eliminate baseload power and still meet pie-in-the-sky environmental targets without hurting reliability or affordability.
There were plenty of warnings, but they were ignored. Some even dismissed those concerns because abstract things like "the fate of the planet" were too important.
But now that the bill has quite literally come due, the blame is simply recast.
You see, it's now the fault of those who are trying to make a historic economic opportunity a reality. Major opportunities don't happen without electricity. There are no high growth, low energy countries.
The fact that years of policies pushed the grid to a point where there was limited room for economic growth should be a giant flashing referendum on those policies.
Blaming data centers is a great way to get headlines and make people think we could have been okay but for those big bad tech bros.
But that doesn't get at the root of the problem, and is effectively a diversion from a series of decisions that set the stage.
And isn't it convenient that in many cases, it's the same decisionmakers who are now the loudest in pinning the blame on data centers?

In their decision today on Chevron v Plaquemines, the Supreme Court of the United States reaffirmed the rule of law and wisely moved Louisiana's coastal litigation into the federal court system. By applying the federal officer removal statute, these cases will finally receive the fair adjudication they deserve. After more than a decade of delay, we urge the federal courts to move swiftly in carrying out further proceedings that are consistent with the Supreme Court’s ruling.

Food for thought.
Trump, Hormuz and the End of the Free Ride
For half a century, Western strategists have known that the Strait of Hormuz is the acute point where energy, sea power and political will intersect. That knowledge is not in dispute. What is new in this war with Iran is that the United States, under Donald Trump, has chosen not to rush to “solve” the problem. In Hegelian terms, he is refusing an easy synthesis in order to force the underlying contradiction to the surface.
The old thesis was simple: the US guarantees open sea lanes in the Gulf, and everyone else structures their economies and politics around that free insurance. Europe and the UK embraced ambitious green policies, ran down hard‑power capabilities and lectured Washington on multilateral virtue, secure in the assumption that American carriers would always appear off Hormuz. The political class behaved as if the American security guarantee were a law of nature, not a contingent choice. Their conduct today is closer to Chamberlain than Churchill: temporising, issuing statements, hoping the storm will pass without a fundamental reordering of their responsibilities.
Trump’s antithesis is to withhold the automatic guarantee at the moment of maximum stress. Militarily, the US can break Iran’s residual ability to contest the Strait; that is not the binding constraint. The point is to delay that act. By allowing a closure or semi‑closure to bite, Trump ensures that the immediate pain is concentrated in exactly the jurisdictions that have most conspicuously free‑ridden on US power: the EU and the UK. Their industries, consumers and energy‑transition assumptions are exposed.
In that context, his reported blunt message to European and British leaders, you need the oil out of the Strait more than we do; why don’t you go and take it? Is not a throwaway line. It is the verbalisation of the antithesis. It openly reverses the traditional presumption that America will carry the burden while its allies emote from the sidelines.
In this dialectic, the prize is not simply the reopening of a chokepoint. The prize is a reordered system in which the United States effectively arbitrages and controls the global flow of oil. A world in which US‑aligned production in the Americas plus a discretionary capability to secure,or not secure, Hormuz places Washington at the centre of the hydrocarbon chessboard. For that strategic end, a rapid restoration of the old status quo would be counterproductive.
A quick, surgical “fix” of Hormuz would short‑circuit the dialectic. If Trump rapidly crushed Iran’s remaining coastal capabilities, swept the mines and escorted tankers back through the Strait, Europe and the UK would heave a sigh of relief and return to business as usual: underfunded militaries, maximalist green posturing and performative disdain for US power, all underwritten by that same power. The contradiction between their dependence and their posture would remain latent.
By declining to supply the synthesis on demand, and by explicitly telling London and Brussels to “go and take it” themselves, Trump forces a reckoning. European and British leaders must confront the fact that their energy systems, their industrial bases and their geopolitical sermons all rest on an American hard‑power foundation they neither finance nor politically respect. The longer the contradiction is allowed to unfold, the stronger the eventual synthesis can be: a new order in which access to secure flows, Hormuz, Venezuela and beyond, is explicitly conditional on real contributions, not assumed as a right.
In that sense, the delay in “taking” the Strait, and the challenge issued to US allies to do it themselves, is not indecision. It is the negative moment Hegel insisted was necessary for history to move. Only by withholding the old guarantee, and by saying so out loud to those who depended on it, can Trump hope to end the free ride.

I do know politicians are stress-testing vital systems with our lives. Enough is fucking enough. This is no way to run a civilization.
