The lane is open because all 5 guys can shoot the rock. We can’t play 5-out.
Ian’s shot development and/or bringing in someone who can space from the 5 is the #1 offseason key for Davidson.
Just deleted a LOT of drafts.
Would have been an unfathomable loss. Alas, survive and advance… thank God for Josh Scovens
Davidson is ranked #362 out of 365 teams in Free Throw %
Never thought I’d see the day
Lest we forget Davidson has not lost to a ranked team at home since 2012
(That’s only 2 games BUT STILL)
Best half of the year for Davidson considering the opponent.
Credit where credit’s due: Matt McKillop had his guys locked in and ready to go tonight…
Can the Cats stay on this heater for another 20:00???
Five schools have been attended by a U.S. President and an NBA MVP:
Davidson: Woodrow Wilson and Steph Curry
Navy: The Admiral and Jimmy Carter
Cincinnati: Taft (Law School) and Oscar Robertson
UNC: James K. Polk and Bob McAdoo/MJ
Georgetown: Bill Clinton, LBJ and AI
That said (and not excusing that loss), not having Sam Brown is a bigger blow than some may realize:
Davidson’s adjusted offensive rating on Saturday (81.3) is the worst single-game adj O rating the program has had in over 15 years.
An 80-52 loss @ Vanderbilt on 1/2/2011 takes the cake (74.2 adj O rating). That Vandy team ended up as a 5 seed…
Updated the record by Quad and Close Games chart… not great!
Cats are converting just 19% of their close conference games into wins while continuing to be Quad 4 merchants

Lots of Matt McKillop chatter on the TL tonight (understandably). This is one of my favorite program statistical views (via Torvik)
You can see the areas of historical strength abruptly stop in 2023, with the areas of historical weakness mostly continue.
What is this team’s identity supposed to be? In a best-case scenario?
Nothing about this system or roster(s, going back a few years) gives the impression there’s a plan to be good enough in certain areas to be a top 100 team…
You’d think the coach who’s playing too many guys would somehow also figure out how to go offense/defense late in games, but no
The only outlier year was 2019. 14-4 in conf play and 109th in 3pt% (35.6%).
32nd or better in 3pt% 4 times in A10 era: ‘15, ‘18, ‘20, ‘22. Only in ‘20 did they not finish top 4.
2019 was a weird year. By far Bob’s best D in the A10, but worst offense in those 8 years.
Replying to @DavidsonHoops
Has Davidson ever finished below the top 4 in the A10 when it shot well from 3?
This has been a very fun start to the year for Davidson. Shooting 42% and giving up 23% from 3 aren’t going to continue.
What is sustainable? Identity and construction. Facing close to a blank slate, Matt & Co have built a cohesive roster that does what they want it to do.
