Today after my sermon someone said, "Pastor when you preach I can tell that you love us."
That's a pretty good summary of what should motivate preaching.
I finished reading The Fellowship of the Ring to the boys, and they loved it. I'm shocked it held their attention. They were devastated by Gandalf's death, so I am excited for their reaction when he comes back.
My toxic trait is fact-checking every time someone quotes the church fathers. It's amazing how often these "quotes" can't be found anywhere other than blogs and commentaries.
Today's claim was that Jerome and Eusebius believed the shepherds, to whom the angels appeared, worked a sacred field for the passover lambs. Plenty of people repeat the claim, but I can't find them saying it. However, Jerome does have a great quote about the shepherds.
