BIG: A Russian military satellite, Kosmos 2612, has been maneuvering to within 136 meters of the U.S.-registered ICEYE-X36 radar imaging satellite, according to satellite trackers, with a closer pass of about 48 meters predicted for Monday.
Dutch satellite tracker Marco Langbroek said a series of maneuvers since September 30 were designed to match the satellite’s orbit with ICEYE-X36’s.
Astronomer Jonathan McDowell called it the first known case of an active satellite making an uninvited close approach to another active satellite in low Earth orbit.
ICEYE, a Finnish company, has supplied radar imagery to Ukraine since 2022, though it is unclear whether this satellite serves Ukraine.
There are no signs of damage so far, and Russia’s intentions remain unclear.

🇵🇱 NEW: Poland is preparing to develop its own alternative to Elon Musk’s Starlink, potentially in cooperation with other European countries.
Deputy Defence Minister Cezary Tomczyk revealed today that:
• Initial offers have already been received.
• Funding has been secured, according to the minister.
• The proposed technical architecture is being planned.
• A formal project announcement could come within the next few months.
The system would initially serve Poland’s military, followed by security services, government institutions and potentially the wider European market.
The announcement comes amid controversy over restrictions on Starlink and Starshield services used by Ukraine.
Tomczyk argued that Poland cannot remain dependent on a single individual controlling critical communications infrastructure.
Importantly, the project remains in the planning stage. No operational satellite network or final contract has been announced.

The Ukrainian operation against Saint Petersburg, Russia, has been the largest in this war against this Russian city. Three major targets were hit during this operation:
- The local oil terminal respectively the oil storage units
- The VKontakte Datacenter
- The local Ozon logistics hub
It needs to be paraphrased that neither Starlink nor Starshield can be used for this operation by the Ukrainian military, since those services have always been been off limits for Ukrainian forces. Only Ukrainian end products are used.
