ALT The extreme heat of the day encouraged these two young wild jaguar brothers to come to the river bank in the Pantanal for an evening drink. I was looking for jaguars from a small boat since almost a week when one afternoon, after a few hours of waiting at a location where a jaguar had been spotted the day before, then, magically the 2 jaguar brothers appeared, still hidden behind the vegetation. One jaguar came first to drink, and then his brother joined him a few seconds later. Last year (2023) has seen scorching temperatures and man-made fires have caused devastating destruction of a large parts of the Pantanal wetlands and spelled distaster for its wildlife. More than 3,000 blazes were detected in the first half of November, the worst in 21 years, triggering an environmental disaster due to man-made fires with the flames even reaching the Transpantaneira, a wildlife heaven and eco-tourism hotspot. Location: near Porto Jofre, Mato Grosso, Brazil.
