Today is the referendum. Worth remembering that as soon as it settles, Smith’s gerrymandering report is due and almost certainly will be made real. Wonder if they’ll at least wait until the vote to do the press release this time… #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

This is such revisionist nonsense. Back when I was at the federal cabinet retreat pleading with them to get the international student situation under control (and getting called a racist for my efforts), Alberta was in the media asking for the population to grow *faster*.
The Prime Minister and I have found common ground on many things over the last 18 months. However, it appears that he has yet to fully understand just how damaging the open-border policies of his predecessor were. Those policies caused Canada’s cost of living to skyrocket, overwhelmed our social services, and made homes and jobs unattainable for thousands of young Canadians. That’s why I’m encouraging Albertans to vote ‘yes to the rest’ to give our government a strong mandate to take more control over our immigration system, so that we can prioritize economic migrants, put Albertans first for jobs, and ensure Albertans’ social services are sustainable. We’re also asking for a strong mandate to work with willing provinces to reform the courts, abolish the senate, and protect provincial jurisdiction. I look forward to hearing from Albertans on October 19th.

ALBERTA’S HOSPITALS ARE THE EMERGENCY. AN EXPENSIVE NON-BINDING POLL IS THE DISTRACTION. By Dr. Raj Sherman, ER physician, former MLA. Personal views. Patients suffer in overcrowded ERs. Ambulances can’t unload. Albertans wait too long for care. That’s the crisis. Meanwhile, Premier @ABDanielleSmith is spending tens of millions of dollars on ten non-binding referendum questions, several requiring constitutional changes Alberta cannot make alone. Why not test these ideas in a low-cost poll, then seek a mandate in a general election where Albertans can judge the government's record? After weighing both sides, I’m voting NO on Questions 1-9 and choosing OPTION 1: REMAIN IN CANADA on Question 10. Here’s why: 1. Immigration control - NO Pro: Manage growth, housing, jobs and services. Con: Risk losing needed workers. My view: Restrictions don’t build hospitals or homes. Planning and infrastructure do. 2. Restrict public services by immigration status - NO Pro: Control costs and clarify eligibility. Con: Exclude some taxpaying newcomers from essential services. My view: Public health and fairness should guide access. 3. Twelve-month wait for social supports - NO Pro: Control costs and encourage self-sufficiency. Con: Increase hardship for vulnerable temporary residents and children. My view: Early support can prevent greater costs later. 4. Healthcare and education premiums for temporary residents - NO Pro: Recover provincial costs. Con: Create financial barriers and delay care and education. My view: Citizens and permanent residents are exempt. Vulnerable temporary residents may struggle to pay. 5. Additional proof of citizenship to vote - NO Pro: Strengthen election integrity. Con: Create barriers for eligible voters. My view: Show that existing safeguards are inadequate before adding new requirements. 6. Provincial appointment of judges - NO Pro: Greater provincial influence. Con: Risk political interference. My view: Judicial independence comes first. 7. Abolish the Senate - NO Pro: Eliminate an unelected chamber. Con: Lose regional representation and legislative scrutiny. My view: Reform before abolition. 8. Opt out of federal programs, retain funding - NO Pro: Greater provincial flexibility. Con: Weaken national standards and accountability. My view: Flexibility must protect universality and accessibility. 9. Provincial laws take priority over conflicting federal laws - NO Pro: Strengthen provincial autonomy. Con: Create constitutional uncertainty. My view: Federalism requires cooperation and the rule of law. 10. Alberta’s future - OPTION 1: REMAIN IN CANADA Separation: Greater control and potential leverage. Remain: Avoid economic uncertainty and constitutional disruption. My view: Resolve Alberta’s legitimate grievances within Confederation. WHY THIS MATTERS: Canada was built by immigrants, their descendants and Indigenous peoples. My parents arrived in 1972 with four young boys. Despite his master’s degree, Dad worked in a lumber mill. Mom picked strawberries, cleaned hotels and sewed clothes. Through hard work and sacrifice, they gave us opportunities. Today, their children and grandchildren contribute in many professions across Alberta and Canada. My family’s story is the story of countless other families in this province and country. Poverty on arrival doesn’t determine a family’s future contributions. Immigration must be sustainable. So must opportunity. IN SUMMARY: This is a referendum to have a referendum. It’s non-binding and, in my view, a waste of taxpayer money. Why not seek a mandate in a general election, where Albertans can also judge the government’s record on healthcare and other priorities? Patients are still waiting. The emergency is real. Government priorities should reflect that. We must respect every Albertan’s right to decide differently. I am an immigrant. I am Albertan. I am Canadian. I believe in a strong Alberta and a strong Canada. Government should be judged by the problems it solves, not the political questions it asks. Please vote on October 19 and Please Re-Tweet. Huh. So Dani’s been having coffee parties with separatists who appear to be directly related to her closest employees. Of note, her coffee party seemed to do nothing to change her hosts position. The dates are pretty telling. Kewl. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

What a colossal waste of $170-200 Million I suppose since they’re not giving it to Sam Mraiche and they’re not giving it to teachers they need to spend it somewhere.😡 #ForeverCanadian

Thanks to Adriana LaGrange & the Alberta UCP Politics of Cruelty™️, I have just been declined previously covered drug coverage by Blue Cross on ALL my plans including the gov't Blue Cross non-group plan, and had to pay over $1200 out of pocket cash for a necessary medication.

Our HC frontlines are running on fumes and we can't afford to lose 1% of our workforce But an AMA poll shows 55% of docs would leave, and another 8% would retire if Alberta voted to separate from Canada This would decimate our ability to provide any semblance of safe care 1/2

How many spiders 🕷️ is too many to shake out of a piece of clothing that was hanging on your bathroom door for a while? For me, it’s 3. Oh, and go compliment a neighbour today. They probably need it and maybe you do too.

You can’t make this up… As the Western Standard openly campaigns for separation… The Alberta Government apparently continues to funnel advertising dollars their way, straight out of the taxpayers pockets. #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli

Soon after Trump’s election, Alberta premier Danielle Smith met with officials of the Heritage Foundation, the powerful conservative US think tank, “to see if we could frame our interests and talking points in terms of the US president’s interests.” In this book excerpt from @dundurnpress, @JeremyAppel1025 traces Trump’s populist influence on Smith’s policies: thewalrus.ca/danielle-smith-…

Try to get off theses hellsites full of bots designed to turn you against each other. Meet a neighbour and have a conversation. Be kind to others and it will be returned. Cheers to you, whatever your opinion.
