Israel’s @N12News poll tonight points to an enthusiasm gap: 81% of opposition supporters say they plan to vote, versus 74% of government supporters. No such gap appeared in a comparable poll eight days before the 2022 election, when projected turnout proved largely accurate. Moreover, it comes as expected turnout is running three percentage points higher than at the same stage in 2022.
The poll preceded Trump’s endorsement of Netanyahu, so its impact remains unclear.
Another wild card: 6.5% of Israelis (equivalent to 8 of 120 Knesset seats) currently support parties polling below the electoral threshold. Will these voters shift to larger parties, as often happens when Election Day approaches and the prospects of smaller parties unlikely to pass become diminished and this is clarified for the public?

After Israel was attacked on Oct. 7, Israeli society was temporarily united after months of deep polarization. Yet this solidarity did not last long, and today, days before Israelis elect a new Knesset, the same issues that preoccupied Israeli society before Oct. 7 remain relevant.
IDI’s Prof. Tamar Hermann joined The Washington Institute’s Distinguished Fellow David Makovsky, journalist and author Yaakov Katz, and political analyst Amit Segal to discuss Israel’s national election campaign. Prof. Hermann explains that immediately after Oct. 7, there was hope that Israel had entered “a new era” and Israelis would unite after months of internal fragmentation. However, Prof. Hermann says this solidarity was bound to be challenged, since the tensions reflected real fractures within Israeli society over core issues like the balance between Israel’s democratic and Jewish character and religion and state. These cracks began to show just three months into the war, when discourse surrounding the return of the hostages and disengagement from Gaza became political: “once the politicization of the war was put on the table, there could not have been any national unity.”

‼️🔎REVEALED: An internal document belonging to Hamas detailing plans to plant explosive devices in areas of displaced persons camps in Gaza.
The document shows that Hamas' engineering department proposed planting explosive devices around displaced persons camps and detonating them as IDF troops approached, placing the civilian population in the camps at risk, in order to create panic as a smokescreen for the escape of its operatives.
This was part of Hamas’ preparations to protect its leadership and operatives, while endangering and exploiting the civilian population in the area, fully aware that these actions were likely to cause direct harm to civilians.

Just days before Israel’s October 27 election, President Trump has unequivocally endorsed Prime Minister Netanyahu.
In one fell swoop, Trump has broken with the longstanding U.S. practice of avoiding explicit endorsements in Israeli elections—and gone further, warning that the U.S. would not join Israel in confronting Iran if Israelis choose anyone but Netanyahu. It is up to the Israeli people to choose their own leader and threatening that the US will walk away from the conflict with Iran is beyond stunning.
Moreover, Hungary demonstrated that a Trump endorsement is no electoral guarantee. Despite Trump’s backing and VP Vance campaigning in Budapest, Viktor Orbán lost by nearly 15 points, ending 16 years in power.
Nor have Netanyahu’s popular military successes against Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Iran’s Ali Khamenei appreciably moved the electoral needle. Likud won 32 seats in 2022; polls now routinely put it at just 20–22.
The ultimate test is assembling a 61-seat Knesset majority. Yet Netanyahu appears more focused on preventing an Eisenkot-led coalition from reaching that threshold than on demonstrating a viable path to 61 seats himself.

NEW: The UAE has agreed to re-enter the Yemen conflict, resuming payments to some government forces fighting the Iran-aligned Houthis in the south. Saudi Arabia will provide air cover for the anti-Houthi force in return, sources in Yemen said.
The arrangement is the first tangible sign the Saudi-Emirati rift over Yemen's future is narrowing, driven by Houthi advances that have alarmed rival Gulf rulers.

The statement issued by Hezbollah’s Media Relations Office regarding the patrols conducted by Lebanese security forces in Beirut’s southern suburbs constitutes a blatant and unacceptable challenge to the authority and sovereignty of the Lebanese state.
Since when do Lebanon’s security forces need the permission, approval, or coordination of a political party to carry out their lawful duties on Lebanese territory?
Any arrangement, understanding, or mechanism that grants Hezbollah the power to interfere with security operations, restrict the movement of security forces, or dictate where and how they operate must be abolished immediately and unconditionally.
We call on the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, and the Minister of Interior to take an unequivocal public position and adopt immediate, concrete measures guaranteeing that Lebanon’s security forces exercise their full authority throughout the entire country, including Beirut’s southern suburbs, without interference, intimidation, or exception.
There can be no sovereignty where a political party claims the authority to dictate the actions of the state’s security institutions. There can be no security where the state must seek permission to enforce its own laws.
Lebanon cannot and will not regain its sovereignty while parallel security structures continue to operate above the law.
These practices must end immediately. The Lebanese state is not a guest on its own territory, and its authority is not subject to Hezbollah’s consent.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) commander Admiral Brad Cooper has issued an update on operations against Iran. Adm. Cooper says the U.S. naval blockade has denied Iran at least $25 billion in oil revenue and that, apart from humanitarian assistance, Iran has no imports or exports by sea. He says about 400 ships have transited the Strait of Hormuz over the past seven days, and that U.S. forces have helped Gulf partners ship more than 100 million barrels of oil. Cooper also said U.S. efforts have helped freeze about $350 million in Iranian cryptocurrency, and that more than 20 civilian mariners have been killed by Iranian attacks on shipping since February.
The update comes as Iran continues to target vessels. Windward counted at least 23 attacks on commercial ships in and around the strait in the two weeks ending October 14, and Iran claims control of the area.
