RIP to the brilliant Joe Egan. “Freeze” (1979) is one of my favorite songs of all time, a criminally overlooked track about anxiety and self-consciousness that somehow also has the calmest vibe imaginable:

So sad to hear of Donald Sutherland’s passing! He is great in everything; I recently watched the somewhat silly “Nothing Personal” (dir. George Bloomfield, 1980), where law professor Sutherland teams up with D.C. lawyer Suzanne Somers, who we lost last year, to save harbor seals:
Somers, in one of her few theatrically-released leading roles, is also very charming, and Dabney Coleman, who died last month, is at his slimy best, too:
Thank you, Jake! Very emotional to be leaving @cafedotcom and @voxmedia! I’m so grateful to everyone I’ve worked with in this job—@PreetBharara, @TamaraSepper, Noa Azulai, Nat Weiner, DT, @MatthewBilly, @samozerstaton, @HC_Richardson, @jbf1755, @JakeKaplanNY, and so many others…
A brilliant final Time Machine article from @DavidKurlander who we will miss dearly at @cafedotcom! cafe.com/article/we-have-loo…
And being @PreetBharara’s assistant and, later, a Stay Tuned producer was an honor and a privilege. Just two weeks back, I felt particularly lucky to get to produce this episode:

I’m off to a new and exciting archival history project (much more on this soon), but my heart remains with the amazing team at @cafedotcom & @voxmedia!
Honored to have had a hand in producing this conversation about Dr. King’s Letter from Birmingham Jail between @PreetBharara and @ClayborneCarson. Dr. Carson is a true living legend, and his reflections on activism & non-conformity have moved & challenged me on this special day:
To celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I talk with Dr. @ClayborneCarson, the founding director of Stanford's King Research & Education Institute, about the lyricism & legacy of Letter from Birmingham Jail: bit.ly/4aVyigp
Listen to some crucial financial forecasting from @Bloomberg’s Big Take pod, hosted by one of my favorite journalists (and people!) @sarahsholder

Bakker quickly became a national symbol of concern over televangelism’s potentially exploitative elements, particularly given the tax-exempt status churches enjoyed.
Almost 40 years after Yao’s warning and the larger confrontation between Congress and the cloth, @TimAlberta talked to @PreetBharara about the continued drift of much of Evangelical America into politics and profiteering:
