Luxembourg is often called a 'microstate', but at 2,586 km² (1,607 mi²), many Luxembourgers, justifiably, consider this designation unfair.

🆘 This is Sir James Eadie QC, the Government’s own barrister, in the Court of Appeal in 2019. Listen carefully to what he says. Theresa May was, he told the court, “entirely well aware” of the “notorious” facts surrounding the referendum: the Electoral Commission findings, police investigations, ICO work and parliamentary scrutiny. And then this: “It’s perfectly obvious that the PM has decided to carry on.” 🔥 That is the heart of it. The referendum was advisory. Serious unlawful conduct had already been established around the campaign. The PM knew the findings and proceeded anyway. At the same time, Parliament had authorised the Article 50 notification, but had never expressly enacted the separate Article 50(1) decision to withdraw. That was the issue raised in my own Webster judicial review. The courts refused permission in both Webster and Wilson. Now, years later, we are being told that Russia also interfered in the 2016 referendum. That is why this can no longer be brushed aside as old Brexit litigation. We need a statutory public inquiry under the Inquiries Act 2005. We need the documents, the intelligence assessments, the Cabinet record, the legal advice, the witnesses under oath, and the full Article 50 decision-making trail. Because the question is now very simple: What did the Government know, when did it know it, and on what basis was Britain actually taken out of the European Union? @JMPSimor @mrjamesob @mikegalsworthy @andyburnham

Extremely important piece from @guardian. Two major polling firms in cahoots with Reform should be a police matter. Chris Bruni-Low also publicly declared to have worked for George Cottrell's allies in Montenegro, PES, the party the of the sitting PM @MickeySpajic. Who is paying?
EXCL: A close adviser to Nigel Farage had an influential role at a national polling company despite not being publicly associated with the firm @Direthoughts & @rowenamason reveal. Chris Bruni-Lowe, Farage’s private pollster for many years, played an important role in the operations of Redfield & Wilton Strategies and used it to develop potential campaign strategies. theguardian.com/politics/202…

Russians have been doing this for years. And including in 2016. We have ignored a gigantic elephant in the room for too long. Tories because they did not want full Johnson charlatanism exposed. Farage lot because they have been in bed with Russia for yonks. Labour because of the fantasy of “making Brexit work.” Burnham has done a huge service in letting the truth in to disinfect
Apparently Russian servers have been hit by a Ukrainian strike and immediately massive online hard right chatter has collapsed. This particular chatter was in support of Germany’s AFD, their equivalent to Reform, but similar patterns are being seen in hard right movements everywhere, including the UK. If anyone needed anymore evidence that Russia are driving a massive wave of hard right propaganda in Europe, this is it. So, all you “patriots” - you’ve been duped by Russia, and you are about as far from patriotic as anyone can be. You are easily brainwashed though. This is how propaganda works.

In 1989, China cut the satellite feeds out of Beijing before the tanks rolled in. Every frame of the massacre that survived left the country as physical tape, hidden in luggage, hand-carried by strangers on flights to Hong Kong. That's how these tapes got out. A three-man ITN crew, correspondent Jeremy Thompson, cameraman Mick Deane, sound engineer Andy Rex, kept filming through the crackdown and the days after, when pointing a camera at a Beijing street was enough to get you detained. Photographers that week were hiding film in tea boxes and underwear just to get it past police. Faces on tape carried real weight back then. After June 4, state television ran crackdown footage on a loop and asked citizens to phone in the names of protesters they recognized. People visible in news reports got identified and arrested. Ninety minutes of raw rushes showing crowds in the street was a wanted list the regime hadn't processed yet. So the tapes sat in a London vault for 35 years. Inside China, the erasure mostly worked. When journalist Louisa Lim showed the Tank Man photo to 100 Beijing university students, only 15 recognized it. One of the most famous images of the 20th century, taken a few miles from their dorms, and 85 of them had never seen it. Mick Deane kept doing this job for another 24 years after Tiananmen. In August 2013 he was in Cairo filming Egyptian security forces clear a protest camp when a sniper shot and killed him. He was 61, doing the same work he'd done in Beijing. Thirty-five years later, the tapes he helped smuggle out are finally doing what he risked his life for.
WATCH: Britain’s ITN has released ~4 hours of previously sealed 1989 Tiananmen footage — filmed by the team that smuggled the tapes out of China. The material, archived for ~35 years, includes a 2-hour crackdown compilation and 90 minutes of secretly filmed raw rushes from the days after, showing military trucks on Beijing streets, crowds, and the aftermath.

When the Guardian went on strike to protest the Observer sale, I became a de facto spokesperson. Later a Tortoise employee I’d never met wrote to me to cancel my 20-year contract. No goodbye & no pay-off. This is how they now take credit for my work..but write me out of the story

During WW II, a man was arrested in London for calling Winston Churchill, the then PM of UK, a fool. The next day in the House of Commons, the opposition members were ready to roast the government for this. "Are we living in a police state", they shouted, "Where we cannot call the PM a fool"? Churchill's reply was disarming, “The man was not arrested for calling the Prime Minister a fool", he said, "but for letting out a State Secret at a time of war".

Part of why this bothers me so much is bc I've literally spent the last DECADE of my life in the trenches of the manosphere, doing outreach to incredibly misogynistic men and helping them heal & grow. And do you know what was NEVER the root problem? PORN.

This is Cereese Qusba, the hero investigative journalist for the Cornell Daily Sun who doggedly pursued the story about the Cornell 7 for two years, blowing the lid off what had happened when her article was finally published on the 19th.. With so many dark posts about such a horrific incident, Ms. Qusba’s work shows the importance of journalism in accountability. She is the best of Cornell.
