Apple Reference Image changes the question from “Was this made by AI?” to “Can we prove this came from a real camera sensor?”
On iPhone 18 Pro:
📷 The image sensor signs pixel data at capture
🔐 Secure Enclave signs capture metadata
📄 A signed DNG is created on-device
☁️ Private Cloud Compute verifies and develops the image
✅ The final reference image is signed with RSA-3072 + ML-DSA-87
Important nuance: this proves what the iPhone sensor captured — not that the photographed scene itself wasn’t staged or displayed on a screen.
A much stronger model for digital trust.
