The UK stands with the International Criminal Court and we stand united with our partners in strongly disagreeing with sanctions imposed on the Court. The ICC must be permitted to continue its critical work holding perpetrators of the most horrific international crimes to account.

On day @ICOnews becomes the Information Commission, I'm please to publish 📢 a new article exploring the ICO's enforcement (or lack thereof) of (UK) #GDPR & both #scrutiny & #oversight of this: sciencedirect.com/science/ar… Fines have averaged just 6.8 and final notices 1.8/year. 1/3

A generally declining trajectory of enforcement is revealed, as is a lack of effective scrutiny by the Tribunal, Ombudsman and High Court. The absence of systematic enforcement oversight by either parliamentary Select Committees or the @EHRC is documented. 2/3

Today's governance changes won't reverse this but the influence of @EUCourtPress case law on both High Court and Tribunal and greater Select Committee commitment to oversight following the lack of enforcement against the egregious #Afghan #databreach might shift the dial a bit🤞

Can UK #GDPR provide redress against misleading juxtaposition of a stigmatic headline & an identified photo when full article makes clear the headline relates to someone else (and so is outside #defamation)? Yes said the Court of Appeal in Vince ukconstitutionallaw.org/2026… 1/2

This is profoundly disturbing. A former Labour deputy leader and life peer joins a US surveillance and defence contractor embedded in our NHS, police and military and immediately announces that some criticism is “propaganda” which he will “correct”. Tom Watson has not been hired for his engineering expertise. He has been hired for his political relationships, credibility and access and to neutralise opposition to Palantir’s expansion through the British state. Privacy, security and national sovereignty cannot be guaranteed by a corporate promotional video. They require: • publication of contracts and government meetings; • independent audits and impact assessments; • strict control over data access and transfers; • open standards and a credible exit route; • protection against vendor lock-in; • parliamentary and public scrutiny. If Palantir genuinely respects British sovereignty, it should welcome those safeguards. Instead it hires a former Labour deputy leader to classify its critics and “correct” them and demonstrates precisely why the scrutiny is necessary.

Israel now fully controls 92% of Israel-Palestine. While Prime Minister Netanyahu had previously negotiated based on the possibility of some type of future Palestinian state, this government now claims all the land of Israel-Palestine and is aggressively implementing a comprehensive, systematic plan to realize its vision of a Greater Israel. The surprising part is how close they have already come. Maps produced by J Street Policy Fellow Frank Lowenstein and Policy Assistant Liam Hamama – recently featured in The New Yorker – show how Israel today fully controls approximately 92% of Israel-Palestine, while the population of Jews and non-Jews is split 50/50. 1/3

No Chief Rabbi, this is truly a GOOD day for British Jews The most senior British Jewish politician @Ed_Miliband has called out the appalling crimes of the state of Israel which falsely claims to act on behalf of all Jews Your constant justification or denial of Israel’s crimes is a source of shame for many British Jews
This is truly a dark day for British Jews. Today our Government has chosen to ignore the deep concerns expressed by so many of us. The measures announced amount to little more than political flag bearing for mendacious anti-Israel rhetoric and those who harbour a dangerous obsession with the Jewish State. These measures will succeed only in bolstering the very extremism they seek to target. On the eve of Rosh Hashanah and at a time when our community is more vulnerable than ever to the wave of extremism that has been building over recent years, these sanctions do nothing to advance the cause of peace. Nor do they make anyone safer – quite the contrary. Gesture politics of this kind feeds into an increasingly hostile discourse about Israel, and the cumulative effect of such punitive policies is to further embolden those, at home and abroad, who use hatred as a weapon against Jews.

The Chief Rabbi is engaging in dangerous politics linking action against illegal Israeli policies with the fate of British Jews. One should oppose such Israeli illegal policies, and one should oppose any attempt to hold British Jews as a collective responsible for those crimes

Important to note that the UK Chief Rabbi is the senior rabbi for one orthodox, conservative branch of Judaism in the UK. As such as represents around 20% of Jews in the Britain. He shouldn’t be seen to be speaking for or on behalf of the other 80% - many of whom strongly disagree with his recent, highly politicised statements.

🚨BREAKING: Today’s announcement is hugely welcome. The Foreign Secretary promised a ‘comprehensive reset’ and today could be the sea change that is needed. The UK Government has committed to concrete action and has recognised Israel’s unlawful occupation and ethnic cleansing. Amid the ethnic cleansing, genocide and apartheid against Palestinians, today's measures are a genuine step towards accountability for Israel's repeated and flagrant violations of international law. The commitment to ban trade in settlement goods and some services, prohibit financing of settlements, refuse arms that contribute to the occupation, and support the genocide case before the International Court of Justice represents a significant change of course. For years, Amnesty has worked with members, partners and Parliamentarians from across the political spectrum to press for meaningful change, and today shows that campaigning for human rights works. But today is not the end of the road. The test now is whether these commitments are properly implemented and enforced, and followed by the wider action needed to hold Israel accountable for its crimes and meet the UK’s obligations under international law.

Ed Miliband has not ducked the challenge. These are significant measures taken with France and Canada. He is right to speak of ethnic cleansing. a trade ban on products, and sanctions on services. Accpeting the ICJ advisory opinion of July 2024 also matters.

E-1? Do you you support or oppose E-1? Or has the Board of Deputies decided to sit this one out by staying shtum on the most acute and consequential dispute on the agenda of the Netanyahu regime on the Government of the UK?
Board of Deputies President Phil Rosenberg quoted in today's Times: “Our community condemns violence by extremist settlers. But we have significant concerns about unintended consequences. We’ve also stressed to the government that any approach to the conflict that focuses narrowly on the actions of the Israeli government, and doesn’t sufficiently address the actions and responsibility of Palestinian leaders, fuels a climate of hatred not only towards Israel but towards British Jews.”

For almost a week Palestinians in Qusra have been unable to leave their homes as settlers surround them. The IDF is able to fight wars on 7 fronts, but not to arrest these settlers? But they are able. Allowing this to happen is a choice. Violent settlers are in charge.
It’s the fifth day of the siege of Palestinian homes in Qusra, in the West Bank. Now, the IDF claims it is launching an operation in the village to “protect the residents.” We have a couple of questions: Dozens of settlers have besieged the homes for five days. Why didn’t the army stop them right away and instead chose to pray with them and stop journalists, activists, and ambulances trying to reach the family? The settler outpost from which the perpetrators came was established in January and has been involved in dozens of terror attacks. Why isn’t this outpost evacuated? The IDF has the capacity to impose a lockdown on entire Palestinian villages or even cities, demolish dozens of homes, uproot hundreds of olive trees, and forcibly displace tens of thousands of people. How come stopping a few dozen settlers from besieging a Palestinian family in a village where Israelis aren’t even allowed to be is such an impossible task for the army? There is only one answer: backing ethnic cleansing is the IDF’s policy. The army had all the tools to prevent the siege from happening in the first place or to break it from day one. Instead, it took an active part in maintaining it, both in Qusra and in Jalud, where a family was expelled after a two-week siege in July. And now, under tremendous international pressure, the IDF is still failing to even pretend that it is trying to confront violent settlers.
