No mistaking this UK orchid - the coastal form of Early Marsh Orchid (Dactylorhiza incarnata var. coccinea). They glow exceptionally in the June sunshine - these ones are from a magical visit to Brauntons Burrows on 11.06.23.

Lovely to see over 40 Pyramidal Orchids (Anacamptis pyramidalis ) including one white one at Dawlish Warren tonight. Mostly scorched by the sun but numbers up on last year. Marsh Helleborine (Epipactis palustris) starting to flower ... @ukorchids @WarrenBirding

The struggle is real out there!
Had view today of a downy jumping spider predating a fly
It was going to stop still so did video rather than trying to stack...
Apologies for the deep breathing but doing these big mag videos handheld is tricky :)

15/5/23 Northern England - I forced myself out this evening and it’s safe to say it was the best decision I’ve taken in ages. My daughter and I sat with this amazing Lady’s Slipper #Orchid (Cypripedium calceolus) for over an hour #wildflowerhour

IT'S ALIVE! IT'S ALLIIIVVE!!! Orchis mascula var. frankensteinii in Dorset 30.04.23. What a beautiful beast of an Early Purple Orchid😊

ALT This is known as fasciated growth. Fasciation can be seen quite a few plants e.g. Dandelions, Daisies, Viper's Bugloss. It can be caused by several factors such as virus, genetic mutation, physical damage to a growing tip or insects. Strange thing is I had a repeated, strong urge to touch this plant. Then I realised it's just like the Human League song 'Keep Feeling Fasciation...'
