Fascinating - the hospital at which a patient with Hodgkin lymphoma is treated in England has more effect on the variation in radiotherapy usage than sex of the patient. Suggests standardisation of approach is not yet achieved! #ISHL13 #lymsm. @DavidJCutter @DavidAdrwJones

1/5 Great to see a the first published analysis of the NHS Galleri Trial at the ESMO conference last week in Madrid and the role of NHS DigiTrials in recruiting across a range of ages, socioeconomic and ethnic groups. Success in some areas yet more to do in others.

The (many) problems with a new study criticizing cancer screening Ty ⁦@statnews⁩ for providing me space to explain why the question the authors asked is important and why their answer is unsupportable, and likely incorrect. statnews.com/2023/09/07/canc…

Exploring the effect of researcher choices on statistical results: 73 teams estimate the same effect size with the same data, and generate 1,253 different results. As always, statistical results depend on modeling decisions. pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.22…

Should we be using #ProtonBeamTherapy (PBT) for consolidation in Hodgkin lymphoma?☢️ Firstly we need to translate dosimetry differences into morbidity and mortality. AND look at value over photon-RT. A🧵on our new paper. @GeorgeNtentas @DavidJCutter @becshakir @PaoloCandio

So PBT unlikely❌to be cost-effective for intermed-stage HL in the UK... With the all important caveats: 👉 Model full of unquantifiable uncertainties (how much certainty can we give our estimate of breast cancer incident 30 years from now?)

👉 Should PBT costing approaches include sunk costs? Is this inflating our estimates? 👉 Natural history of disease model used UK data, results not generalisable to other juristictions.
