So what does it mean to spend the holidays at sea. 🌊🎄
Well, you definitely aren’t going to spend the day alone.
You’ve got a whole ship full of people literally in the same boat.
Highly recommended!!! Awesome recognition, Scott!

My two big hopes for the book: that the incredible Thomas Smallwood would get some very belated acclaim, and that more Americans would learn about the domestic slave trade, which tore thousands of families apart. This recognition should help.

On the Delmarva Peninsula 20,000 acres of farmland has converted to wetlands because of #sealevelrise and soils in another 2,000 acres has become too saline to grow crops. @Jeremy_Cox

I don’t know who Patton Oswalt is, but this statement seems very wise, to me. I stand against persecution of the Jewish people, and I feel deeply for the common Palestinian. Let’s make progress toward a lasting peace.
I might be inspired to finally get a tattoo. Of course, it would have be marialite (Vanko and Bishop, 1982).
We like cacoxenite, on which phosphorus is predicated
But kyanite folks are so beautifully dedicated! #MinCup23
Tragic. I think I snorkeled there about 50 years ago with my Johns Hopkins geology class field trip to the Florida Keys, led by Dr. Laurie Hardie. 😞

I see the "livestock CH4 is/is not the same as fossil CH4" debate has resurfaced again🙄
Y'all! This is very well studied. Here's a thread on the science.
First tho, both these claims are untrue:
- livestock and fossil CH4 are the same
- livestock CH4 doesn't warm the planet
I just ordered my copy!
My excellent publisher @CeladonBooks has devised this crazy pub day animation for FLEE NORTH. The famous painting on the book's cover, by Eastman Johnson, shows an enslaved family escaping to Union lines in the Civil War. Turn up your sound!

Polygonal, to be precise.
New discovery alert: I've spotted evidence that Mars had wet-dry cycles that could have led to conditions for microscopic life to form!
More on the hexagonal shapes in these preserved mud cracks and what they tell my team: go.nasa.gov/3QwbITS

ALT A zoomed-in image of the surface of Mars shows preserved ancient mud cracks believed to have formed during long cycles of wet and dry conditions over many years. Taken by the Curiosity rover, the image shows hexagonal shapes - almost scale-like in appearance - encrusted all over the dark beige-colored surface.
The U.S. has got to continue its investment in world-class scientific ocean drilling. To continue down this road of disinvestment would not only be disappointing, but also ridiculously short-sighted.
Totally agree. It sux. I’m in the midst of a Paxlovid rebound - day 10 and it feels like Day 1 😤

I got it during the week the WHO said the emergency was over. Even vaccinated and boosted, it was brutal! Rest up, take good care.

Why did the Atlantic ocean open up 60 million yrs ago?
This week we're 150 mi off Greenland in water 2.7 km deep, drilling for samples of basalt crust buried 1.3 km below the seabed, to get answers.
This work will be impossible after 2024 with @TheJR de-funded.
