This is gut-wrenching. Danny was a fantastic mentor and friend, and he established a tremendous standard in this industry. Nobody better in HS sports. His legacy is as strong as anyone’s. Sad day for all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.

With an extremely heavy heart, I pass along that Donato "Danny V" Ventura passed away last night after a 7 month battle with cancer. He was a great journalist (best in Boston School Sports history), a fantastic guy, the best husband and a great friend to so many of us. So sad🙏

The greatest high school journalist of all time and it will never be close . This man went above and beyond for so many athletes and coaches everywhere . Rest in peace to the greatest to ever do it. Thanks for everything Danny; we will all miss you.

Not the result we wanted to fall short in the state final , but what a ride for our senior class. Loved getting in the lab with our staff and these guys and getting better! One of the best senior classes we’ve ever had, we will miss you guys and thanks for everything! #212

Coaches @DavePowellJr and Pat Helmas have not just perfectly synergistic styles, but a close friendship and passion for community-building that drives @NeedhamVB212 @NHSRockets to succeed year after year @GlobeSchools 🏐📒: bostonglobe.com/2026/05/23/s…

Why Needham boys’ volleyball’s consistent success is rooted in Norwood basketball - The Boston Globe

A bond formed at a hoops camp morphed into a coaching tandem that has cemented Needham as one of the state's premier programs, currently in search of its sixth straight state final appearance.

John has been a huge advocate for student-athletes and coaches at Wellesley and the Bay State Conference. Truly a staple in interscholastic athletics in MA. The BSC won’t be the same without Brownie! From your rivals next door, thank you John Brown 👏🏼

Behind every state championship banner is a group of kids who learned that mediocrity doesn’t cut it, accountability is earned, and success is shared. Winning is just the byproduct.
