I am enormously grateful for the service and the sacrifices of those who broke barriers before me—and although I may be the first African American Secretary of Defense, it’s my hope that I won’t be the last.

A Historic Choice for Secretary of Defense

11 years ago today I pushed the first commit for Vagrant. I didn’t know what a virtual machine was, I barely knew Ruby, I had never done any ops, I was still a 20 year old university student. Follow your dreams, it isn’t easy, but it can be done. github.com/hashicorp/vagrant…

Less educated != Less capable I appreciate the perspective of this article and the effect that social class has on jobs, leadership, and promotions.
Harvard Business Review

Workers with lower social-class origins tend to be less educated, a factor that explains about 60% of the disadvantage they experience in the workplace. But that disparity in education levels has nothing to do with intelligence and more to do with context. s.hbr.org/3nxbiLV?utm_campai…

The Forgotten Dimension of Diversity

Workers who come from lower social-class origins in the United States are 32% less likely to become managers than those who come from higher social-class origins. That represents a disadvantage even...

I love this @AWS reaction to using Waypoint to deploy to Docker, EKS, and ECS with the same command and minimal config changes. “That’s pretty awesome.” clips.twitch.tv/SavageGracef…

My local shops in Thailand. In 2 seconds scans my temperature and to see if wearing mask. Doors don’t open if not. 3 cases in 100+ days here. Removes awkward mask arguments for staff as well.

For those pursuing an arm64 based home lab for "edge" projects, here's my latest project: - 8 x RPi 4B 8GB, 4-core Cortex A72, 64GB mSD - PoE HATs for each RPi - Ubuntu 20.04 64-bit for arm64 - K3s (currently running v1.19.2+k3s1)

If you're wondering what the PoE HATs are for, the Netgear 8-port PoE switch at the bottom provides power to all RPis, so effectively only 1 power cable in the setup. I also use 1GbE connection for cluster interface (WiFi only for SSH/mgmt).

Happy to have the support of @SpaceX’s Starlink internet as emergency responders look to help residents rebuild the town of Malden, WA that was overcome by wildfires earlier this month. #wawildfire
