Anvil is right and we all have a part to play,
But the misinformation that deters new people from playing RS3 comes largely from OSRS players who left us 13 years ago and never gave a second chance.
"The economy is dead".
"Chicken is unaffordable".
"Inflation and p2w left irreparable scars".
"Game is a joke and veterans are acting in malice to gatekeep".
So on and so on.
These sound like serious concerns to a person who has never played RS3 before, but only us active RS3 players know its hyperbole and that Jagex has successfully treated it over the past few years alongside the efforts from Road to Restoration.
Take a look at this golden sample of a specimen below. This is the mindset of an alarming number of OSRS players. Us Twitter dwellers know how prevalent these people are and how much damage these people do to RS3's image. In some countries its straight up libel to behave like this and intentionally spread misinformation against a business brand. Jagex is not situated in one of those countries. They are very kind.
Thankfully there are plenty of upstanding OSRS players out there who have given RS3 a go and loved it, and have become a powerful voice for us. Kudos to them because we were in a much worse situation several years ago.
BUT in my eyes, these particularly hateful OSRS players who have done nothing but talk nonsense and ruin the image of RS3 are the ones causing the most damage. Ever participated in a guild discord of another MMO? There are OSRS players there too who have successfully convinced everyone that RS3 is a mismanaged, dying game. I know a few myself and they haven't touched RS3 since 2013, yet they speak with such authority.
Lots of respect to Mod Anvil for speaking up, but the discourse surrounded Reignited is a reminder for just how resentful some OSRS players can be, and how challenging it is to clear up irrelevant misinformation that has damaged RS3's long term reputation.
RS3 is a great game. Wish more people tried us out. Wish less people spread misinfo.

I'm a returning player that jumped ship when osrs came out and started back last year when I needed a break from osrs, but I completely agree with JayDV and many others.
Anyone hiding behind "I don't want to play with tainted players" is so full of themselves. Rs3 still needs a few more ironing out updates, but the game is great right now and it sits right next osrs for me.

Do you guys not feel this playing leagues? Or do temp game modes not count?
If you want to marvel at people going far and fast then it happens every year in September.
The playbook is the same. You either know enough about the game and have plenty of time to play or you don't.
We're all 30+ and playing a 25 year old game. A lot of things are solved. There's no individual brilliance to witness that hasn't already been done before. (Did you even know MTX lamps and stars can't even be used on new skills for a few months of a skill's release? Those world firsts are indeed authentic!)
You don't want to be surrounded by people who so much as touched a prismatic lamp from a TH promo? How about the reignited bond buyers or GP swap services that people will inevitably do to have a competitive edge? How are you going to deal with that? Seeing other people do this won't impact your gameplay as much as you think, but reignited will absolutely be a wound for RS3.
If you really want to play RS3 you should just hop back on that account you left behind 10 years ago and play! Just don't instigate a mutiny on us players that were loyal before you. That's kinda a terrible thing to do đ„ș

Future players will go to Reignited.
Veteran worlds become less attractive as new players cease to populate it. The wealth youâve earned, the levels and achievements youâve worked hard for in your younger years will slowly be diminished, as the âmain gameâ status silently shifts to the world with the newer generation of players.
This is disrespect. The devs claim to value your time, but they donât. They want us old loyalists replaced. They want to destroy the economy and start over. This is an attack on your investments, your stats, the grind you put into your account in your younger years, when you could afford to put 10,000+ hours into your account.
Sure they can claim things like MTX putting a permanent scar on the game. But for one account that cheesed their way to 5.8b with MTX, there is a hundred more of you who genuinely played the RS economy game well and managed your time adequately to train those skills, with many more on their way.
And hey, devs canât pretend like you need a decade to accumulate wealth from nothing. Plenty of people out there have reached endgame from a fresh account with just 1-2 years of play, and no financial assistance from a main.
Their intentions are clear - RS3 devs want you replaced. They donât respect your time and investments. They just want a career-home-run at our expense.
We must not allow @RuneScape Reignited to happen. We cannot be replaced!

"I will play Reignited if xyz conditions are met" is the same tune as people who used to say "I will spend money on MTX if TH is removed".
I support having new players as much as you (if you remember me tweeting at you a bunch from years ago), BUT concurrent active players/monthly spenders are a guarantee. Prospective players will attempt to bargain, but they will rarely follow up on the promise.
Lip service is rampant in this age of social media and influencers. In the end of the day, the people who pay the bills are your true customers. Toxic positivity is everywhere. Those who farm likes and karma while never actually making a direct monetary contribution to your product must be approached with extreme caution. Metrics don't lie.
Compromising the product to appease prospective customers is a major risk!

To illustrate my point further - do you know how easy it is to go from a new account to an Amascut ready money machine? You can do this in a few months depending on how much time you can afford to sacrifice irl and well managed active and afkscape hours. The leveling process isnât that hard. You can have about 200 quest points down, high level stats and have 2000 kc Rasial kills down for a full set in a few months if you know what youâre doing and can afford to no-life. Iâve never personally done this much before, but I used to altscape regularly (think pvp pures and POSD alts) so I know my benchmarks very well. If I set up an alt or two to funnel resources to a Reignited main then my economy dependency will be minimal too. Once youâve built up an Rasial and Amascut ready account, you can print tens of billions in a remarkably small amount of time. Enough to afford you the rest of the gameâs buyables in an open economy like Reignited. Hence, the âfair gameâ argument for prospective new players stops becoming an excuse. Reignited just becomes a less capable game devâs convenient way of saying âWe donât like santas, partyhats and other billion gp rares. We want a new RuneScape where inheritable wealth ceases to be an excuse at all costsâ. Prospective new players were never capable of this opportunity from the start regardless of which game they choose to play. Theyâll be knowledge diffed by a well researched 20 year (unemployed) veterans either way. Youâll see maxed comps and possibly even trimmed accounts within the first 12 months of Reignited and the market will be very similar to mainscape in a couple years, IF reignited even lasts that long. You will be back to square one on this equality dilemma, except this time itâll be in a new economy without holiday rares and with a whole bunch of dissatisfied players who canât use economic and wealth inequality as an excuse. And a permanently fracture player-base that you wonât be able to repair. Reignited baby!
