Approval for Modernisation and Upgrade of Onne, Rivers, Delta, Calabar Ports I am pleased to announce that the Federal Government has approved the comprehensive modernisation and upgrade of Onne, Rivers, Delta and Calabar Ports. This approval builds on the earlier approval for the modernisation and upgrade of Apapa and Tin Can Island Ports in Lagos, reaffirming our determination to develop a balanced, efficient and globally competitive national port system. Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu @officialABAT, infrastructure renewal and economic diversification remain central to the Renewed Hope Agenda. Modern and efficient ports are critical to this vision because they facilitate trade, support industry, attract investment and create jobs. Extending the modernisation programme beyond Lagos will complement ongoing investments in Apapa and Tin Can Island, while helping to reduce the concentration of cargo traffic around Lagos and creating additional efficient gateways for international trade. Upgraded infrastructure and improved operational efficiency at Onne, Rivers, Delta and Calabar Ports will enhance cargo handling, reduce vessel turnaround times, strengthen regional connectivity and make the movement of goods more predictable and cost-effective. These ports have strategic roles to play in our trade, industrial and regional development, and we are determined to equip them to meet the demands of a growing economy. This is part of a broader expansion of Nigeria’s maritime infrastructure, including Federal Government approvals for the development of the Ibom, Bakassi, Agge, Gateway, Ondo and Bonny Deep Seaports. Our approach is comprehensive. We are modernising existing ports while facilitating the development of new deep seaports. Together, these investments will expand Nigeria’s maritime capacity, create stronger economic corridors and position our country as a major maritime and logistics hub in Africa. Our vision is an integrated maritime and logistics system in which ports, roads, rail, inland waterways and other transport infrastructure work together to enable the seamless movement of cargo. We want Nigerian businesses to spend less time and resources moving their goods, while creating an environment that encourages investment and supports job creation. The Ministry will continue to work closely with state governments, terminal operators, investors, shipping companies and other stakeholders to ensure that these projects translate into tangible improvements across Nigeria’s marine and blue economy. TINUBU: OGUN DEEP SEAPORT TO DECONGEST LAGOS PORT CORRIDOR President Bola Ahmed Tinubu says the proposed Gateway Deep Seaport in Ogun Waterside, with a four-kilometre berth and an 18-metre draft, will help decongest the Lagos port corridor, ease pressure on the Apapa and Tin Can Island ports, and reduce costs and delays for importers, exporters and consumers. Update: We have been cleared and authorized to proceed with a $36 million federal lawsuit against Nigerian President Bola Tinubu (@OfficialABAT) and Ambassador Femi Fani-Kayode in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. The suit arises from threats to kidnap and physically harm Dr. Von Batten, made by Ambassador Fani-Kayode as part of an organized criminal conspiracy involving the Nigerian Presidency. As to President #Tinubu, this case will test the limits of the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act and head-of-state immunity while Tinubu remains President. The complaint will proceed under applicable D.C. tort law, the FSIA, the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA), and the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), including 28 U.S.C. § 1605B and 18 U.S.C. §§ 2331 and 2333. Section 1605B addresses specified international-terrorism claims against foreign states, while § 2333 provides a civil remedy to U.S. nationals who satisfy its statutory requirements. After filing next week, we will engage with U.S., U.K., and E.U. immigration authorities regarding the alleged extrajudicial threats and whether Ambassador Fani-Kayode’s travel or visa status warrants review. U.S. law provides terrorism-related grounds of inadmissibility under INA § 212(a)(3)(B), 8 U.S.C. § 1182(a)(3)(B), and authority for visa revocation under INA § 221(i), 8 U.S.C. § 1201(i). You have given these words true meaning in my life. You have stood by my side through every season. The burdens that were mine to bear often found their way onto your shoulders. The thoughts I could not put into words somehow found their way to you. In difficult times, when the future was uncertain, you stayed calm beside me and prayed with me. Through all these years, you have remained the one who truly understands me. More often than not, you sense when I need counsel before I ask. There have been nights when your presence alone was counsel enough. I call you my truest friend and confidante because you speak the truth plainly, even on the days I would rather not hear it.
