Hands down one of the best exchanges between reporters and an NFL head coach I’ve ever seen, featuring Titans HC Robert Saleh and the local media.
What started as a simple question about the complexities of Saleh’s zone defense and why there might be some early growing pains turned into nearly seven minutes of incredible insight.
Saleh explains why the system takes time to learn but can eventually produce top-five defenses. He breaks down how players learn to attack offenses by understanding what they’re trying to do to them, rather than simply dropping to a spot and defending grass.
He also dives into the evolution of his defensive philosophy, drawing from his experiences around Pete Carroll’s Cover 3/Legion of Boom system, Vic Fangio, Monte Kiffin and others. He discusses the key positions that make the system work, his overall philosophy on defense and so much more.
I’ve heard DeMeco Ryans speak glowingly about Robert Saleh, how brilliant he is and how instrumental he was in DeMeco’s development as a coach. But I don’t think I fully appreciated what he meant until watching this.
Just an incredibly bright defensive mind.
And what makes this especially fascinating from a Texans perspective is that DeMeco is essentially building and running a variation of that same defensive philosophy, with some of his own wrinkles.
It’s particularly relevant right now given Houston’s struggles with defensive communication and executing its coverage rules. Saleh provides some excellent perspective on why these systems can be so difficult to master, how players eventually develop a deeper understanding of what offenses are attacking, and why that understanding allows them to play faster and more aggressively.
Must watch.

In a season of gratitude, I’m learning to embrace all of what is—and all of what God has removed. Because not every loss is a loss. Some things had to leave so I could see more clearly what was meant to remain.
The rain has lifted. The debris is gone. No more destruction. No more distractions. What was removed was protection. What remains is provision. And everything ahead points to one direction: ascension.

“There's a time and place for everything.” Azeez Al-Shaair
From being one of eight children raised by a single mother, to fighting through adversity to reach the NFL, Azeez Al-Shaair has never taken the easy road.
As our Training Camp tour continues, we stop in H Town to chop it up with Azeez who gets real about his upbringing, Muslim faith, identity, and the moment that changed everything—the Trevor Lawrence hit that led the world to judge him by one play.
He opens up about nearly losing football, the mental toll of being misunderstood, and how DeMeco Ryans helped him through one of the darkest moments before earning a leadership role on the Texans defense alongside a fierce Houston group.
A conversation about faith, resilience, accountability, and finding your identity beyond one moment.

'It's great,' new #Texans edge Jadeveon Clowney said in a telephone interview. 'It was a family decision. It wasn't about the money it was about chasing my legacy and chasing a Super bowl. I've got a lot of game left and want to contribute.
'I was excited about paying with those guys (Will Anderson Jr., Danielle Hunter), too . Good defense and I can help contribute and good chance to chase a Super bowl. I know what it looks like I can help this squad.' @KPRC2 @KPRC2RandyMc
