Things are sadly about to get far harder for all South Africans - Especially our poorest 💔 As an ordinary citizen of this country, not a politician, and not an economist, I feel bewildered by recent developments. We’ve just been hit with a 30% tariff from the United States under Trump. It’s not a headline, but a hard punch to the gut of our economy. Our exports are suddenly uncompetitive. More jobs are now in jeopardy, on our farms, and in our factories, mines, and ports. The Rand is sliding. Prices will rise. And the poorest among us will carry the heaviest burden. Be sure of that. Many of those who are cheering this on don’t know what is coming 💔 But what troubles me most is this: where is the citizen in all of this? We watch from the sidelines while political parties squabble over power. Budgets are used as bargaining chips. Coalitions form and fracture behind closed doors. And now, as the DA threatens to leave the GNU and the ANC looks to the EFF, the very foundations of responsible governance are being tested. And yet, nowhere in the noise is us, the ordinary South African, the person who wakes up every day just trying to build a better life for their family, their colleagues and their community 💔 This is not a game. These are not abstract numbers. Every policy choice, every alliance, every word spoken in Parliament echoes in real life - in the petrol price, in the unemployment line, and in the grocery aisle. We don’t earn a guaranteed large government salary… We really deserve better. We need principled, people-first, leadership decisions. We need the citizen to be at the centre, not always the casualty, of this nation’s unpredictable decisions 😢 For all our sakes, it’s time to put the country, and her citizens before politics. Nkosi sikelel iAfrika 🇿🇦 🙏 May sanity somehow prevail to protect our economy and by that, JOBS!!
