SHERIFF DARON HALL ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT FROM PUBLIC SERVICE NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After serving as sheriff of Davidson County for 24 years, and more than 35 years of service at the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), Sheriff Daron Hall announced his retirement from public service Wednesday. He has a rare opportunity in the private sector which requires his departure from office by November 1. Hall’s last day with the DCSO is scheduled for October 19. “Over the years, there have been other opportunities, but the timing and circumstances were never right,” Hall said. “While leaving after 35 years of service is not an easy decision, I believe the sheriff’s office is well-positioned for the future with strong, capable, and experienced leadership. I am committed to doing everything I can to ensure a smooth transition, both before and after my departure.” Hall was elected to his seventh term as Davidson County sheriff earlier this year. He is both the youngest person ever elected to the office and the longest serving in Nashville history. Hall made arresting the problem, not the person, a focus. He designed and implemented the first-of-its-kind Behavioral Care Center, a nationally-recognized diversion program aimed at decriminalizing mental illness. In recent months, he secured funding for the DCSO’s southeast campus to help alleviate overcrowding, successfully challenged the State of Tennessee in court over the prolonged detention of their inmates in local jails, increased the salary for the Davidson County sheriff position, and closed a loophole in the public safety pension system. “I have come to realize there will always be new challenges to address, and there may never be a perfect time to step away. But I am 62 years old and have spent over half my life at the DCSO,” Hall said. “The time has come for me to seize a new opportunity and begin the next chapter of my life. Serving the people of Nashville and working alongside the DCSO staff has been the greatest privilege of my career, and I will always be grateful for those who placed their trust in me over the years.” The Metropolitan Council will appoint an interim sheriff next month and the position of sheriff will be placed on the ballot next year.

It’s 8:20 and Nashville hasn’t even tallied the early votes…..I knew everyone fled California for Nashville but didn’t know they took over the election commission.

I am pleased with the court’s decision today regarding the crisis of state inmates overcrowding our local jails. This is an important step towards our correctional system, once again, being a national model. Work is underway to ensure Nashville has facilities that are safe and secure for both Davidson County Sheriff’s Office staff and inmates.

Our Employee of the Month for May is Toni Aguirre. When a fellow employee became seriously ill at work and experienced severe pain, Toni immediately stepped in to help. She was prepared to drive the employee to the emergency room, but the employee's condition quickly worsened, making it impossible to reach the vehicle. Toni stayed by the employee's side, providing comfort and reassurance until paramedics arrived and transported the employee to the hospital. Toni's support continued beyond the emergency. She voluntarily went to the hospital, remained with the employee until they were discharged, and even welcomed them into her home for the night to ensure they were safe, comfortable, and cared for. Toni's selflessness, compassion, and dedication to others go far beyond the expectations of her role. Her actions exemplify outstanding service and the kind of teammate every organization is proud to have.

Congratulations to our Officer of the Month for May, Cpl. Roslyn Hunter! While conducting routine duties, Cpl. Hunter noticed what appeared to be a piece of trash on the floor. Rather than overlook it, she took a closer look and discovered it contained contraband. Her attentiveness prevented dangerous items from circulating within the unit, helping protect both inmates and staff. Cpl. Hunter's vigilance, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence reflect the highest standards of professionalism in corrections. Thank you for your dedication and for making our facility safer every day!
