Penguin Fact Friday #34 Did you know? Gentoo penguins have the longest tail feathers of any penguin species! When they walk, their tails sway from side to side, almost like a dog wagging its tail. In the water, their tails help with steering. Even their scientific genus name, Pygoscelis, means “brush-tailed!” In Faaast Penguin, tail-assisted steering might come in handy when you're speeding around corners, dodging rivals, and trying to stay on course. Maybe all that wagging is actually a secret racing technique! Do you ever feel like you need a tail to keep control during a chaotic race? P.S. A lot of animals use their tails for balance or movement. Humans don't have tails anymore, but would we have better balance if we did?
