⚠️A rare *Extremely Critical* fire weather risk has been added to Saturday's outlook for a large chunk of eastern Washington due to the combination of strong winds and low humidity values. These are only issued for events that have potential to cause upper-echelon fire conditions. Ongoing fires and any potential new starts will exbibit extreme fire behavior. This means everyone in these risk zones need to be prepared for very fast changing conditions tomorrow.

Global sea surface temperatures continue breaking daily records, with Mar. 23 having a preliminary SST of 21.141°C, ahead of the previous daily record of 21.118°C set in 2024.

Very warm air aloft as seen in image 2 shows 850mb temps or at 1500m (5000 feet) very warm. Snowmelt will occur, but surface temperatures will be cooler as seen in image 4. This is a temperature inversion. Cooler air is denser and gets trapped in the lowlands. This causes a layer of fog to form and sit over the low lying areas helping to block solar heating from reaching the sfc. Fog is likely go occur lots over next 7-10 days seen in image 4 visibility map. once this system passes, bringing cool temps for sea level and low visibility with only some burn off. ALT Flood Warning for the Chilliwack River and its tributaries, as well as the North Shore Mountains. Flood Watch for tributaries of the Lower Fraser, including the Lillooet River and tributaries around Pemberton, the Fraser Valley, the Fraser Canyon and the Coast Mountains. A separate Flood Warning remains in effect for the Sumas River. A Flood Watch is also in place for the Kingcome River, Vancouver Island including the Englishman River, and the South Coast including the Sunshine Coast, Howe Sound and the Sea-to-Sky corridor. High Streamflow Advisory for Haida Gwaii, the North Coast including Kitimat, Prince Rupert and surrounding areas, and the Central Coast.

If you can call it a break weather wise. Enjoy it while you can in SW BC and the PNW. Next week is starting to look really, really, really ugly too. A likely Category 4 Atmospheric River of the dreaded Pineapple Express variety. Is following closely on the heels of a rare Category 5 Atmospheric River that just devastated many areas of WA this week.
This is definitely a worst-case scenario setup, and major red flags are being thrown left, right, and center on this one.
I'm posting it now, so you aren't caught off guard. This forecast verifies, and you will see precautionary multiple major highway closures in BC. 96 hours out on these weather models is a pretty reliable time frame.
