Nearly one year in, New York's congestion relief program is saving people time and creating good jobs on construction projects to deliver the reliable, accessible subway service that millions of riders deserve, not just in Manhattan, but deep into Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx
Congestion pricing is the gift that keeps on giving this holiday season. 🥰

19 minutes between A trains, running local, and tons of people pouring out at the second to last stop. We deserve better.

“I’m a new parent, and so I have a different relationship with public safety than I did in the past,” 48-year-old commuter Paul Booth said. “I think gun violence is an issue for the city, an issue for the nation and one that I worry about increasingly.”
Murders and felony assaults in the transit system are up this year through Oct. 11 compared to the same period last year, according to the latest data available from the NYPD. gothamist.com/news/riders-at…

Static half-measures instead of dynamic management are hurting New Yorkers and wasting scarce public space It's not public excellence, it's public negligence
The city’s failure to fully implement a comprehensive redesign of the Central Park drives has left park users struggling as the formerly car-choked path has boomed with a wide variety of recreational uses. buff.ly/iDpFSaQ

I walked myself to school in Brooklyn through what is now a historic district from the age of 7 It's sad that anyone would vote to preserve unsafe streets and deny that freedom to kids today VOTE YES ON 3
Village Preservation recommends a “NO” on ballot question no. 3, which NYC voters will soon be deciding upon. Find out why we think this will lead to worse outcomes for neighborhoods + city, removing important checks + balances from decision-making: villagepreservation.org/camp…

I can't think of a nation in need of this

I don't understand what *some* big green groups are doing by signaling they could accept this stuff. Their movement's core multi-decade victories are threatened. They should help force them to do radical surgery on this dirty deal - or kill it. Read this analysis for ugly deets:
The Senate's bipartisan permit reform bill would upend the National Environmental Policy Act and also weaken the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Water Act, and the National Historic Preservation Act. My legal analysis: scholarship.law.columbia.edu…

Chicago's @Metra (supported by @NITA_Chicago) is really a national leader in turning obsolete commuter rail infrastructure into a useful regional rail network. Very interesting plans, in one of the few states that funds urban transit well. trains.com/pro/passenger/com…

We now have hard data demonstrating that anti-Muslim animus spikes during election cycles because too many politicians have come to view it as a winning gambit rather than a cost. We proved that gambit wrong in New York City and we will do it again in Michigan.
Trump on El-Sayed: "His name is actually Abduladadalalalala. It's Adulbabababababa Mohammed Al-Sayed. So his middle name is Mohammed. So I was right. He's a jihadist."

We need guns off our streets and especially out of our subways. No one should fear for their safety on our public transit. My heart goes out to the loved ones of the victim and everyone shaken by this experience.
I am both heartbroken and angry at the news that a man was shot and killed on a subway platform in midtown today. Heartbroken because of the loss of life, angry because every New Yorker deserves to be and feel safe on the subway. Significant strides have been made by the state and city, MTA and NYPD alike, to get us back to pre-pandemic levels of safety, but more work remains to be done.

"As organizers, we hear every day that the very presence and hostile actions of these teams are harming every rider and slowing service for all. This is not the way to stop fare evasion. Simply put, these teams must end now." @HeyItsMurad of @thenyic and @betsyplum in @NYDailyNews describe the rising human and fiscal costs of fare enforcement following a violent incident involving MTA's EAGLE team in Brownsville this past week. Constituents of Rep. Mike Lawler (R, NY-17) are shelling out way more to fill their gas tanks since Trump launched his war on Iran than they're spending on NYC's congestion toll. Guess which cost Lawler calls "a cash grab": nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/10/…

📉 Traffic + Pollution? DOWN. 📈 Bus speeds? UP. 🛠️ New subway elevators? GETTING BUILT. 📸 The cameras? STAYING ON.
Right here at the Bryant Park station, the @MTA is building the first elevator funded by congestion pricing. Business is up, traffic is down. Now we’re putting billions to work on transit upgrades that will improve the rides of millions.

More and more people *are* saying
The price of gas isn’t dropping anytime soon. Coupled with the costs associated with owning a car, the need for meaningful investments in public transit is dire. Be a strong advocate for public transit investment in your community.

"Millions of us already depend on transit, cycling, and walking every single day. "We need a plan to design all of our streets to maximize and build on that success in every neighborhood to free New Yorkers up for what matters most. "And we need to get it done fast."

Detroit is turning I-375, a sunken highway that wiped out Black Bottom and Paradise Valley, into a surface boulevard. Cities are finally reckoning with what urban highways took from them. The BQE must be part of that conversation.
