My HRF grant proposal for BitcoinHer got rejected. Building BitcoinHer from scratch has been one of the most thrilling things I’ve chosen to do with my career. Last night, though, it felt like I’d hit a wall. When I first shared the idea with my peers, several suggested applying to HRF. That grant became a cushion I quietly looked forward to. I held off on expanding the team, hoping I’d soon have the resources to bring more women into this work. The goal has always been simple: help women, starting in India, understand how money works. Bitcoin changed how I saw the system. I wanted to share that lens with anyone willing to listen. Since then, we’ve done: • 8 luncheons and events across 6 cities • 2 reading clubs, each running for 4 months • More than 20 online workshops • 10 college talks on freedom tech • A 2-day Trezor Academy workshop By my rough estimate, these efforts have reached over 1,000 people, with women at the heart of it all. I’m sharing this because, in a moment when I’m questioning myself, I need to remember what we’ve built. I’ve watched people go from “Bitcoin isn’t for me” to asking questions, receiving their first sats and wanting to learn more. Those moments give me confidence in this work. During my journalism internships, I often felt like I was selling a little piece of my soul. Around that time, I found Bitcoin. I spent the next four years working with Bitcoin and other fintech companies, learning about money while repeatedly noticing how little space women had in conversations and decisions around it. I wanted to help change that. In January 2026, I quit my job to work on BitcoinHer full-time. The idea has kept evolving through the women I meet. Our next phase focuses on women entrepreneurs: helping them understand Bitcoin, save in it, explore payments and connect their businesses with a global community. I want to see women producing real goods and services, earning in Bitcoin and participating in an economy they help build. Just last week, during my Bombay tour, I met a food vendor accepting payments in sats. Seeing someone use Bitcoin in their everyday business made that vision feel closer. Then the rejection arrived. I’ve probably read that email a hundred times, wondering whether I missed something, whether I should have explained the work differently, whether I’m doing enough. We’ve kept going without a grant so far, touch wood, with the help of our community support, corporate sponsors and ofc @bitshala. But I had hoped for some breathing room and the ability to build a larger team. Losing that possibility hurts. BitcoinHer still has work to do. Next month, we’re co-hosting our first international event in Amsterdam. There are women to meet, lessons to share and ideas to put into practice. I’m disappointed, and I’m still showing up. If you’ve attended a session, learned something through BitcoinHer or simply believe in what we’re trying to build, I’d love to hear from you. A little encouragement would mean a lot to me and the team right now.

Every child deserves a healthy start, and every mother deserves full support. Vital prenatal care like this initiative by @GatesAfrica lays the physical foundation for families across rural Kenya. Alongside healthy beginnings, our programs support mothers through everything that follows: early childcare, mental health, family planning, entrepreneurship, and digital tools like Bitcoin, Nostr, and AI. Maternal health and maternal sovereignty go hand in hand. 🧡 xitter.cf/i/status/2109667410521…
For women in rural Kenya, getting access to an ultrasound can be difficult, often meaning long distance travel over bumpy roads. With support from Gates Foundation, partners such as AMPATH and Moi University are bringing portable ultrasound devices to pregnant mothers wherever they are, empowering healthcare workers to provide better care and identify potential complications early. When you get the right partners together, the impossible can become a reality.

In just two weeks, we're already 25% of the way to funding our next Bitcoin Babies program! What does a $5,000 program *really* mean? It means everything. It's one full year of weekly Bitcoin stipends for mothers, expert coaching, community meetups, guest speakers, and all the tools our families need to build a sovereign future. This is a direct investment in generational change. Help us get to the finish line. A huge thanks to the teams at agora.spot and @soapboxtech for their incredible support! agora.spot/naddr1qvzqqqyygup…

being an open-source Bitcoin dev is a dream job: - strong mission. we're building open source money for centuries to come. - excellence. your peers are some of the smartest researchers and developers in the world. - open-source ethos. open-source software is what the entire digital world is built on. be part of the counter-force to proprietary and closed systems. - cryptography. learn how to do magic with numbers, how to give people power with math. - funding. non-profit organizations provide funding for strong Bitcoin developers. put in the work and you'll find support. - politics & economics. bitcoin is a societal experiment. a fixed supply currency as an alternative to infinitely printable fiat money.

Real health autonomy for women and girls isn't built in top-down boardrooms—it's forged on the frontlines. By shifting direct funding and power to local leaders, @amplifyfund's strategy is reshaping how grassroots SRHR advocacy actually succeeds. 🌸💪 amplifychange.org/about/stra…

Bark plugin for BTCPay Server is out! Start accepting Lightning and onchain payments today, right away in your BTCPay instance. Could be a payment POS machine, or fully online shop.
1/ The Bark plugin for @BtcpayServer is now ready for production. It's possibly the simplest way for a business to take self-custodial bitcoin payments (especially Lightning) on their online store, and you don't need to run a Lightning node to do it.

A Bitcoin course that started in a WhatsApp group after its founder got scammed has now graduated 643 people across 28 countries. That's @thecore21m, founded by @MukunguFelix in Nairobi. It runs a free online Bitcoin Diploma four times a year, monthly hands-on meetups with @Trezor hardware training, and a circular economy in Githurai called @bitcoingithurai where 16 merchants now accept Bitcoin Lightning payments. The proof it works: graduates have gone on to start their own projects, from Bitcoin Githurai to Bitcoin School Kenya and many more... The Core also co-hosted Unconference 03 in Nairobi together with @MyFirstBitcoin_, 500+ people, where @EcoBitz_21m, @bitcoinbabies, @Bitsacco, @AfribitKibera and some other amazing Bitcoin projects were present. On 26 September the meetup lands on a university campus for the first time, at Murang'a University of Technology, capacity doubled to 100. Full story in the comments 👇
