I am really excited to share the first chapter of my PhD, where we characterise a genetically linked NLR/MLKL pair underpinning the Rwt3 resistance locus in wheat! With yet another KFP involved in monocot immunity 🌾biorxiv.org/content/10.64898…

Super excited to share our latest work! We cloned Rwt3.6.8, a novel wheat NLR/MLKL resistance gene pair that recognizes three distinct AVR effectors (PWT3, PWT6, and PWT8) from the blast fungus Pyricularia oryzae. biorxiv.org/content/10.64898… #Blast #Wheat #KFP #phytopathogenetics

Check out our recent preprint on the structure of a non C-JID TNL resistosome from flax. We are very proud of the persistence of Natsumi who got this long running project over the line and a congratulations to all involved. Check it out... doi.org/10.64898/2026.02.03.…

Excited to share our new paper available on bioRxiv! We cloned Rmo2 and Rwt7, genes for resistance to the blast fungus, from barley and wheat. Both genes are orthologs encoding TKPs with an integrated N-terminal HMA domain. doi.org/10.64898/2025.12.15.… #Blast #TKPs #Barley #Wheat

(4/5) The effector binding interfaces on the HMA domains of Rmo2 and Rwt7 are spatially distinct. We engineered both TKP-HMAs to gain binding to non-cognate effectors in vitro and in plant cells.

(5/5) Incorporating the engineered HMAs domains into TKP receptors, we demonstrate the engineered receptors have expanded recognition profiles in cereal protoplast assays.

Excited to share our review on structure-based engineering of NLRs in plant immunity. We also have some cool plant immunity engineering stories coming out this month so watch this space! #plantimmunity #nlr sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

😀 Thanks to @rey_darma_ for his hard work on his PhD project, here he explores the diversity of the NIP2 paralog family and challenges a long-standing result that this effector induces necrosis, an important example of a negative result worthy of publishing
