France is in a debt crisis. The problem is that the ECB has a track record of bailing countries out when things get tough. So politicians don't have an incentive to fix stuff, because they know the ECB will be there. Incentives are broken. The ECB is why.

Alors on l’a bombardée.

🇮🇱 Just as Netanyahu’s inherited the racist worldview of his father Benzion, an aide to Jabotinsky, Israel’s Chief Rabbi David Yosef inherited his rabid bigotry from his dad.
His father, former Chief Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, compared Arabs to snakes and to ants “swarming” through Jerusalem; said that “it is forbidden to be merciful” and called for missiles to “annihilate them”; declared that “Goyim were born only to serve us”; prayed that Palestinians would perish and be struck by a plague; and, after Hurricane Katrina, referred to Black Americans as kushim (derogatory Hebrew term for Black people, equivalent to the N-word), while asking God to “bring a tsunami and drown them.”
A vast literature has focused, and rightly so, on the need to “deradicalize” Islamist extremists.
Yet Western public debate has devoted far less sustained attention to the religious supremacism, rabid racism and dehumanization that have become mainstream in Israeli society.
That blind spot matters. Dehumanizing language is not merely ugly rhetoric. When it becomes normalized by the highest religious authorities, leading politicians and media figures, it helps make the unthinkable thinkable and collective punishment, forced displacement and massive civilian suffering acceptable…
The Chief Rabbi of the State of Israel, Rabbi David Yosef said today that the Palestinian people do not exist, do not have rights, that it is good that Gaza was destroyed and that with the help of God, all of Gaza and the West Bank will be Jewish soon. The Jewish religion is being used as a tool of genocide. This is not a fringe rabbi. This is the most important rabbi in Israel.

US consumers are pulling back on spending:
US retail sales dropped -0.6% in July, the largest monthly decrease since May 2025, missing expectations of a +0.1% increase.
The biggest drop came from non-store retailers, including Amazon, $AMZN, where sales fell -2.2%, the 2nd-largest decline since July 2021.
At the same time, motor vehicle and parts dealer sales fell -1.8%.
As a result, retail sales excluding auto fell -0.3%, below the expected +0.2% increase.
Meanwhile, control-group sales, which feed into the GDP calculation, plunged -0.4%, the largest monthly decline since January 2025.
The measure excludes food services, auto dealers, building materials stores, and gas stations.
Americans are becoming more cautious with their spending.
