Thread. I use two cochlear implants to hear. I’m also an audiologist. I map CIs, including my own. I’ve activated other people’s CIs, seen their initial reactions, and accompanied them on their journeys with adjusting to this technology. Here’s why I can’t stand these videos:

#EHDI #EDHI2020 Just saw a workshop on cued speech because I am interested in bimodal bilingualism. When a presenter says that they don’t need ASL because cued speech works bothers me because I believe that the bilingual advantage at home does so much more than one language.

To be clear though, the presenter did clearly acknowledge the role of ASL in the lives of many Deaf people and the systematic oppression that ASL receives from many people. I am just hesitant to say that one language should be favored at the expense of others.

Just finished this workshop on family transitioning from IdEA part C to part B. Excellent discussion of how parents should be aware of their rights and how to get involved in the IEP process. However, I was hoping to see a more nuanced discussion of FAPE.
