As quoted more extensively by Ronald Reagan’s in his brilliant 1983 Evil Empire speech to the National Association of Evangelicals:
“It was C.S. Lewis who, in his unforgettable "Screwtape Letters," wrote: "The greatest evil is not done now in those sordid 'dens of crime' that Dickens loved to paint. It is not even done in concentration camps and labor camps. In those we see its final result. But it is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried and minuted) in clear, carpeted, warmed, and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voice."
“Well, because these "quiet men" do not "raise their voices," because they sometimes speak in soothing tones of brotherhood and peace, because, like other dictators before them, they're always making "their final territorial demand," some would have us accept them at their word and accommodate ourselves to their aggressive impulses. But if history teaches anything, it teaches that simple-minded appeasement or wishful thinking about our adversaries is folly. It means the betrayal of our past, the squandering of our freedom.”

“we will pay any price….to assure the success and survival of liberty.” Is this still true? Do we prize liberty or do we prize power and purse? No more clear test than the choice between Ukraine and Russia. Abandon Ukraine and we abandon liberty. Eventually even our own.

So Putin responds to Ukraine’s successful attacks on Russian oil depots - by targeting innocent civilians in Kyiv and murdering women and children. The Russian President is going to lose his revolting war, which he never should have started. But the truth is that Western governments are doing nothing like enough to bring him to the negotiating table. Why won’t we systematically take out the shadow fleet? Why won’t we give the Ukrainians the hundreds of billions of frozen assets? And why the hell is the UK - of all countries - now buying Russian aviation fuel, even if it has been refined in third countries, under a loophole recently opened by Keir Starmer? This means British cash is helping to fund Putin’s war machine. It’s a total disgrace and if Starmer wants a legacy he should end the practice now.

Chris Cuomo (of all people) just effortlessly unmasked Tucker Carlson as a Russian propagandist.
Cuomo: “I'm a journalist. I'm not allowed into Russia. Why are you allowed in?”
Just watch how Tucker squirms.

@KingJames LeBron was a winner on and off the court, and Laker fan should appreciate his performance for the last 8 years. If LeBron goes home to Cleveland, it won’t matter if they win the world championship or not because it’s Hometown fans will get their opportunity to say their goodbyes to one of the greatest ever.
And who knows one day he may become Mayor!! @Lakers @NBAcom
