Kingdom of the Clock, my novel in verse about contemporary urban living, is finally for sale. The first pages are attached for curious cats; for those worthies who want to read on, go to the library, send me a DM, or: amazon.com/Kingdom-Clock-Nov…
Publishing poetry is like tossing a rose in the Grand Canyon and waiting for the echo, they say - but a blurb is like an echo heard before you let go! What echo? The kind words of the wonderful poet, translator, editor, and scholar, 👑 @BorisDralyuk for Kingdom of the Clock!

One of my favorite poems I've written. I was deeply moved by Rhina Espaillat's comments on it at the reading.
You watch—it’s more than time you tell. You’ve taught me how to spring ahead, though I fall back; to wind against the wind by changing tack; that bearings must be smooth; that seas are not; @DanielGalef plough.com/articles/john-har…

Sorry to vaguetweet, but I got news today that makes me think it would be a good idea for poets to submit to the upcoming issue of @PoemsforPOI rather than waiting for the next time around. Just do it! pfpoi.blogspot.com/p/submiss…

The funny thing about poetry, and the arts generally, is that two great poems, totalling 679 lines of verse, are sufficient to establish immortality.
Happy birthday to Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772–1834), a founder of the Romantic movement, poet, critic, and philosopher. Author of "The Rime of the Ancyent Marinere," "Christabel," "Kubla Khan," and so much more!

The chances of getting work from Twitter connections are slim, but I could really use some right now. Copy editing, proofreading, manuscript review, instructional design.

Relatable!
I grow old, I grow old. My coffee has gone cold. The beans I grind in daily faith are rich, but not too bold. I grow old, I grow old. My coffee has gone cold.

Coincidentally why I’m going to be drinking Armagnac and reading Autumn of the Patriarch within 30 seconds.
If I didn’t have responsibilities, I would go to a double feature of “history of concrete” and “you can see everything” tonight. In a heartbeat Instead, I’ll sit on the couch and watch football. It’s called growing up

“We’ve travelled to the moon. Earth’s secondary light, And touched night’s quiet lamp without the help of dreams. We’ve mapped the sea’s deep floor and joined the birds in flight; All nymphs have left their streams.” - Tamara Nicholl-Smith!!!

Why read Proclus when you read Aristotle???
Why read Iamblichus when you can read Proclus?

History should be taught with the intention to produce human beings who love and care about history
Part of the problem is the tension between teaching history, with the goal of presenting a coherent narrative, and teaching history with the goal of creating historians. Society expects the first but the curriculum and history teachers themselves prefer the second. (I have QTS)

How many people do you know who are or have been professional gamblers? And - be honest please, this is for posterity. If you don't mind, how do you know them? I know 3 - one from poetry, one from church, and the last has a kid at school with ours.

The most uncomfortable aspect of this for everyone is that if Trump hadn't joked about annexing Canada, and we hadn't wailed about it, Anne Carson would not have won the Nobel Prize this year. She owes Donald Trump a nice bottle of wine, and Mark Carney a REALLY nice bottle.

I admire the way you Canadians are closing ranks around a really bad poet, just because she's done the Commonwealth proud. It genuinely warms my heart.

Some of us know the whole darn thing by heart, and contemplate variants like "shall I at least/last" as we recite it to ourselves beneath the stars, or upon the beach at Alexandria.
Some of you would have an aneurysm if you were made to read the greatest poem of the twentieth century.
