Interesting pick. Strong labor history past. Her relationship with @NYCSchools poses a challenging dynamic with @UFT.
@LVladeck apparently is the great-granddaughter of Baruch Chaney Vladek - Belarusian-born Jewish American labor leader, journalist, socialist politician, and civic reform.

If research is correct… this is the labor law lineage she brings with her:
Baruch Charney Vladeck
(1886-1938)
Socialist leader, labor organizer,
NYC councilman
>
Stephen Charney Vladeck
Labor and civil rights attorney
>
Bruce Charney Vladeck
Former administrator of Medicare and Medicaid under President Clinton

Contrary to @nycschools guidance DOE now allowing ed tech that had AI. Did MagicSchool convince them they took out the AI? was any verification done? Was verification done that they are not still data mining student info? Most experts say that is difficult if not impossible.

Undoubtedly there’s a para shortage in @NYCSchools due to the lack of a living wage b/c of decades of @uft and the @NYCMayorsOffice not delivering for them. But can we get the MESSAGING straight @SpeakerMenin and UFT? Is it 8k or 1k?

NYC paras don’t need political heroes. They need a living wage.
Not just temporary payments that disappear in 2027.
Not photo ops.
Not campaign promises.
Not victory laps.
A permanent. Pensionable. Living wage. In the contract. NOW.
Paras created this moment. Don’t let politicians—or self-serving union bosses—take it from them.

Maybe ask your sources why disabled retired paras (183) are still waiting for the UFT to discuss an amendment to save their pension. Fix Para Pay, in solidarity w/Fix Retiree Benefits @NycRetirees have sent 5 emails to UFT leadership asking them to amend RSSL 605 after the NYC Actuary reinterpreted their pension & cut it in half after receiving them since 2002- & been met with silence. The law needs to be changed and a special session called. ☎️ we are waiting.

This mayoral administration would do itself and labor in this city a BIG favor by getting rid of the rest of the entrenched machinery … by letting go of OLR fixture and now consultant, Bob Linn … and dumping their willing partner in Deputy Mayor, Dean Fuleihan.

SCOOP: NYC Office of Labor Relations Commissioner Renee Campion will retire Dec. 1.
She informed OLR staff of her decision to retire on Tuesday.
Campion has worked at the agency for 24 years and was made the first woman commissioner of OLR in 2019.

New: Data confirms that the NYS education department lowered the number of raw points students needed to reach “proficiency” on last year’s statewide reading tests, when scores increased. Now that the gains have evaporated, one expert calls 2025 an ”anomaly.” Another suspects "something unexpected happened with the scoring.”

#BobLinn the @NYCMayor's advisor suppressed wages for decades. It proves that even though he negotiated an 'equity fund' - it never created equity! Or EMS, Crossing guards, lunch ladies, etc, would not be in their current situation with low wages & worker shortage. #BobLinnDidThat. Today he's the Mayor's Advisor. Think anything will change? Think again. 40 years of Bob Linn influence. It's time to end the madness & fix it. His failed policy has proven to be a failure. Need to clean house at OLR & change policy #ButWaitTheresMore @SallyGold @JosieStratman @danarubinstein @elizashapiro @JulieMenin @SpeakerMenin @NYCMayorsOffice @MayorsPEU

Little known fact. Mulgrew had $450 million at his disposal in the last contract round that could have gone equitably to paras … and he failed to deliver. This is after decades of UFT doing little at the bargaining table to bridge the gap.

Clearly the City Council has never read the Taylor Law. Sandy, we can’t legally strike. Unless you’re encouraging us to… or just tell Michael to do his job.

This is what a unionist would say about this whole situation.
Collective bargaining is at the center of true union values.
Paras need a sustainable living wage guaranteed in their contract, now.
Mr. Mulgrew, do your job and fiduciary responsibility and amend the para contract at the bargaining table.
This can happen now if you put your efforts into it. Unless you don’t know how to organize and mobilize beyond lobbying.
The UFT made a side agreement/MOA for stipends for teachers in oversized classrooms with Mamdani.
The paid family leave that was an achieved not too long ago was a collectively bargained side agreement.
We don’t have to WAIT until the contract expires. Get it done if you know how. And acting like it must wait for the next contract round is calculating and disingenuous.
Stop playing brinksmanship games with Menin.
Your job is at the bargaining table, not politics at City Hall. Nor amplifying her mayoral ambitions.
Fred, btw, is a retired teacher union president.

*Bob Linn*. Former OLR Commissioner, then no bid contractor to OLR @ $500 an hour, now advisor to the Mayor.
If OLR still needs Bob Linn because it cannot negotiate its own contracts, then the commissioners there don’t belong there
Same people caused the Retiree health debacle
Daniel Alicea retweeted
The Mayor is following the advice of the bureaucratic technocrat handling labor and the budget in Deputy Mayor Dean Fuleihan.
Fulehein, his consultant, Bob Lynch, and the folks at OLR would never let this stand.
Same folks that gave us “cost savings” healthcare in exchange for sub-inflation raises while both labor and the union welfare funds raided the Healthcare Stabilization Fund — memorialized inthe 2014 and 2018 agreements.
As long as he follows their advice, Menin and Mulgrew will continue this game of brinksmanship.
Ultimately, this must happen at the collective bargaining table. And it will when it drags out in the courts and the political stakes get hotter.
Bottom line: They all could open the para contract right now if they wanted and come up with a side agreement/MOA.
But bottom line is that there are many other low paid city workers— like crossing guards, school aides, cafeteria workers that are grossly underpaid and in need of a sustainable living wage in the midst of this affordability crisis.
Daniel Alicea retweeted
The city lawsuit against the para bill has been filed. It argues mostly that it goes against the Taylor Law.
Interestingly, there is a wrinkle on page 13. DC 37 is now claiming their family workers are entitled to this money also.
That’s because in their contract family workers are also called “paraprofessionals”.
