I hadn't posted anything related to the Jason Alday line because I'm not sure what to make of it as a whole. It's a story of delusion, hypocrisy, and ultimately tragedy. And it's peak 2020s. But I wish I could have spoken to him before he took his life, and by simple persona reinvention he could have become an even bigger celebrity as the one who duped everyone - because they were desperate to be duped. I would have pitched him book rights, movie rights, speaking engagements (think Frank Abagnale, Jordan Belfort, Nick Leeson etc), and the public would eat it up. Anyway, here's what Grok spat out for a screenplay outline. Not bad, Grok! Title: The Trophy Genre: Dark comedy / satirical drama Logline: A charismatic fabricator rises to the pinnacle of elite academia by giving institutions exactly the inspirational story they desperately needed—until the people who needed the myth more than the truth finally look at the receipts. Tone and Approach Jason (composite, fictionalized version of the public record) is the anti-hero: charming, quick, self-aware in private, and fully conscious that he is selling a product. The humour is dry and observational. The real targets are the institutions and individuals so hungry for a perfect progressive trophy that they waved through contradictions, ignored prior warnings, and treated basic verification as a form of bigotry. Cambridge is the central institutional character—pompous, status-obsessed, and suddenly very concerned about “process” only when the media arrives. This is not a hagiography or a pure takedown of one man. It is a portrait of mutual delusion. Opening Scene – South London, years earlier INT. MODEST FLAT – NIGHT JASON (late 20s/early 30s) sits at a laptop. Multiple browser tabs open: academic papers, marathon charity sites, old news clippings. He is drafting a CV and personal statement. He types, deletes, rephrases. JASON (V.O.) People say “write what you know.” Bad advice. Write what they need to believe. He pastes a paragraph from one paper into another document, changes a few words, adds a citation that doesn’t quite match. Smiles faintly. JASON (V.O.) They don’t check the footnotes if the story is good enough. Cut to: a university press release years later. Stock photo of smiling Black academic. Headline: “Youngest Black Professor in Cambridge History.” Key Sequence – The Appointment INT. CAMBRIDGE HIRING COMMITTEE ROOM – DAY A panel of senior academics. Papers, CVs, glowing references. One more experienced (and less photogenic) candidate has just left. The chair, PROFESSOR HARGREAVES, holds Jason’s file. HARGREAVES The trajectory is extraordinary. Non-verbal until eleven. Couldn’t read until eighteen. Then the PhD, the publications, the fundraising… thirty marathons in thirty-five days. A younger committee member, DR. ELLIS, shifts uncomfortably. ELLIS Has anyone actually verified the athletic claims? Or the honorary appointments listed? HARGREAVES (softly, almost pitying) We have a responsibility here. Representation matters. The optics of questioning this particular candidate… Another member The media will eat this up. Perfect story for the brand. ELLIS I’m not saying reject him. I’m saying do the ordinary due diligence we would do for anyone else. Silence. Hargreaves closes the file. HARGREAVES We are not going to be the committee that rejected the most inspiring Black academic of his generation because we got hung up on paperwork. Move to appoint. They vote. Ellis abstains. The motion carries. Montage – The Ascent Jason on stage giving an emotional talk about overcoming silence and illiteracy. Audience rapt. Cambridge marketing materials: “From non-verbal child to Cambridge chair.” Journalists repeating the numbers without checking. Jason in private, on the phone with a friend, half-laughing: “They keep asking me to run another marathon. I told them my knee. They’re so relieved.” Internal emails (shown on screen) from earlier years raising concerns about textual overlap and data anomalies. Replies that amount to: “Handle carefully. Optics.” Jason is not a cartoon villain. He is skilled at reading rooms. He understands that the demand for the story created the supply. The Unravelling – Biting Commentary INT. CAMBRIDGE ADMINISTRATION OFFICE – DAY (later) Crisis meeting. Screens show news headlines about plagiarism software matches, impossible sample sizes, revised fundraising claims, missing affiliations. VICE-CHANCELLOR We need an independent investigation. Immediately. HARGREAVES (now defensive) We followed process. The appointing committee— VICE-CHANCELLOR The appointing committee wanted a symbol. Symbols do not require the same scrutiny as ordinary hires. That is the process we followed. A communications officer We issued a statement calling the original criticism a “vile campaign.” That language is now… suboptimal. VICE-CHANCELLOR (quietly) We treated verification as hostility. That is the institutional failure. Jason is not in the room. Cut to him watching the same headlines on his phone, face unreadable. JASON (V.O.) They needed me to be real more than I needed the lie. That’s the real power imbalance. Climax Sequence – Confrontation and Mirror Jason meets privately with a journalist who has the receipts (or with Ellis, the one who tried to raise flags). The conversation is not a confession of pure malice; it is cooler. JASON You think I invented a life because I hated the truth. I invented a life because the market for the truth was closed. They had a vacancy for a particular kind of story. I filled it. Efficiently. JOURNALIST / ELLIS People believed you. Students. Parents of autistic children. Colleagues who thought the system could still produce miracles. JASON They believed the version that made them feel progressive. I just supplied the product. Cambridge put the logo on it. He is not redeemed. He is lucid. The humour comes from the institutional double-speak that follows—statements about “learning lessons,” “renewed commitment to integrity,” and “supporting diverse talent” delivered in the same tone that once celebrated the unchecked story. Closing Image Jason walks out of the Cambridge courts alone after the formal process. Tourists take photos of the architecture. A guide is mid-sentence about centuries of excellence and rigorous standards. Jason glances back once, almost amused, then keeps walking. No triumphant music. No tragic swell. Just the sound of ordinary Cambridge traffic. Title card suggestion (optional, depending on final cut): “They wanted a trophy. They got one.”

Hey @elonmusk - how much would it cost to provide @Starlink to every Canadian household that doesn’t have high speed? If this $2.14 BILLION plan is the panacea of expanding access, competition, and service - where is the interest from private investors and banks?

As of 40 years ago, Pierre Trudeau took a walk in the snow, over his disastrous policies for Canada. Today, we invite @JustinTrudeau to do the same and be replaced by better people who love Canada @s_shermineh @MelissaLantsman @PierrePoilievre

Pretty obvious that ‘safe supply,’ however well intentioned, has been a massive failure on all accounts. How much longer are the Liberals going to push this destruction?
Enough is enough we need to END so called “safe supply”. Focus on recovery. Exploiting the pain of those struggling with drug addiction is disgusting Justin!
