A short life, and a merry one. That was how Bartholomew Roberts was said to have described a life sailing under the Black, and while Charles had never known the man himself, he liked the sentiment well enough.
+ more alive than he had in decades.
When he is close, he hears the sea again, and the magic that gives him life makes plain that this sea, over there, is /his/ sea, too.
To fear death is a choice. One he'd never embraced.
