The Prime Minister @andyburnham's personal commitment to making dementia a central priority for his Government is clear. His announcement of ยฃ48 million for dementia research is an important step towards accelerating the development of urgently needed new treatments and better support for people living with dementia. Every day, our Admiral Nurses support families who are crying out for a system that is there when they need it, rather than leaving them to navigate fragmented services alone. We share the Prime Ministerโ€™s ambition to ensure that people living with dementia get the care and support they need. We cannot let this opportunity for progress pass us by.

A new National Care Service. Greater public control of water, energy, and housing. A National Commission on Electoral Reform. Strengthening our relationship with Europe. Reforming the education and welfare system. Today I set out a different path for Britain. You may disagree with some or all of what I have said today. But I have given you what you often say is missing from politics. Honesty, ideas and a clear direction for the country we all love. If you agree with enough of what I have said, get behind this plan. And get behind each other. It's time to draw a line. To move beyond a decade of drift and division. To bring a spirit of unity and positivity back to our country. To unlock the working-class aspiration that is still there in every postcode. To hope again.

BREAKING: Reform UK would win less seats than both Labour and the Conservatives if a general election were to be held today in a dramatic reversal of fortunes for Nigel Farageโ€™s party, a YouGov MRP has found The new large-scale seat by seat MRP by YouGov suggests the UK is currently heading for a hung Parliament with Labour as the largest party with 241 seats The Conservatives would be in second place with 130 seats, better than their result in the 2024 general election, while Reform would be pushed into third place with 123 seats If replicated at the next election the poll suggests that both Robert Jenrick and Suella Braverman, who deserted the Tories to join Farage, would lose their seats to their old party Even if Reform and the Tories could agree a pact they would still not have enough seats to form a majority coalition government However Labour would also struggle to govern having lost 162 of the 403 seats that it holds at present It would have to rely on both the Liberal Democrats, predicted to win 71 seats, and the Greens, on nine, or one of the nationalist parties in order to command a majority in the Commons It marks a stark reversal of Reformโ€™s fortunes compared to a YouGov MRP a year ago: September 2026 Seats Labour: 241 Conservative: 130 Reform UK: 123 Lib Dem: 71 SNP: 40 Plaid: 15 Green: 9 Other: 3 September 2025 Seats Reform UK: 311 Labour: 144 Lib Dem: 78 Conservative: 45 SNP: 37 Green: 7 Plaid: 6 Others: 3 thetimes.com/article/17f7462โ€ฆ

When I talk to young people about work, the same thing keeps coming up. Not a lack of ambition - a lack of a way in. One million young people in this country are not in education, work or training. That's around one in eight. And six in ten of them have never had a job at all. I know that these young people aren't lazy. They have been let down by a system that told them there was only one route to success, and then left them without the opportunities to get their foot in the door anywhere else. Too often, work experience has depended on who you know, rather than what you can do. Last month we changed the education system so that from 14, young people can access proper technical education, with real skills, real work experience and real links to employers where they live. Now we're bringing employers, schools and colleges together to close the gap between the classroom and the workplace. The youth unemployment crisis has been ignored for too long. That ends now.

On #BBCBreakfast 11 days ago @Jon4HighPeak called for shops to stop selling disposable barbecues. Today Andy Burnham ordered a temporary ban on their sale.
The country's biggest retailers are being urged to stop selling disposable barbecues for the rest of the summer. Labour MP Jon Pearce, who has seen a wildfire in his High Peak constituency on Tintwistle Moor, told #BBCBreakfast wants a full ban in public areas. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c20dโ€ฆ
