Beware of nostalgia. Someone posts a picture or video of a pleasant day in the past, and it makes it seem like all was better in this bygone era. And then you come across a news story from 1890 in Ohio about a mother who “cut two of her babies in slices” and “boiled them in a kettle.” Sin—and lots of it—is in every age.
Mostly peaceful high schoolers protesting teacher pay and the weather, am-I-right?

My grandfather built McCormick Spices from nothing after your ancestors tomahawked his wife and kids. I'll be damned if you take another scalp from my family fortune!
The meltdown over the Shane Gillis joke is insane. The joke barely scratched the surface of the substance of the matter. 🤷🏻♂️
In 1867, the Ohio State Senate strengthened their laws against abortion. The senate report referred to the abortionists as "a class of quacks who make child-murder a trade." They pointed out that "physicians have now arrived at the unanimous opinion that the fetus in utero is alive from the very moment of conception." Their report concluded: "Let it be proclaimed to the world, and let it be impressed upon the conscience of every woman in the land 'that the willful killing of a human being, at any stage of its existence, is murder.'" - Quoted from Craddock, "Protecting Prenatal Persons," Harvard Journal of Law & Public Policy
One of the problems with public executions that developed in America was how they were basically turned into a circus. They didn’t reflect the sobriety of the moment.
That’s a flaw with how they were carried out, not with a public execution itself.
Public executions are not inherently acts of “bloodlust.” Frankly, there should be more of them, along with a greater use of capital punishment. But the weight and gravity of it should be reflected in it.
This book remains the undefeated explainer why grown adults think they need “object lessons” to understand the word.
When preaching from Isaiah 58:1, I missed a golden opportunity to blow a trumpet as an illustration 😭
