Annamalai @annamalai_k completely reversed his position on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls the moment he left the BJP, When he was in @BJP4India , Annamalai fully backed the SIR exercise. He reviewed party-level SIR work, repeatedly claimed Tamil Nadu had a large number of fake voters that needed to be purged, and attacked the DMK for opposing the clean-up. In a public debate with Shashi Tharoor in May 2026, he defended the process as fair and necessary, declared that Congress had conducted SIR earlier, and accused the Opposition of applying double standards. He even said he had overseen the BJP’s SIR effort across several states. Today, after quitting the BJP, the same Annamalai has switched sides. He now publicly supports the questions raised by the Cockroach Janta Party and others against the SIR, says “it is for the government to answer,” and declares that Rahul Gandhi has “every right” to question the process. Annamalai was an IPS officer. He knows how law and order works. When a protest crosses the line — blocking roads, creating chaos, or continuing after being asked to disperse — police have to act. That is their job. As someone who has worn the uniform, he understands this better than most. Yet he chose to publicly criticise the Delhi Police for the way they handled the CJP leaders. He questioned the arrests, spoke about the difficulty they faced in getting bail, and suggested that keeping them in custody would only make them more popular. This comes from a man who, as a police officer, would have been expected to enforce the law without hesitation. It is easy to comment on police action from outside. It is different when you have actually done the job and know what is required to maintain order. His criticism sits uncomfortably with the training and responsibility he once carried. CJP and Congress have their own reasons for attacking the SIR. Annamalai needs to explain why he is giving weight to their questions today when his earlier stand was completely different.
