CAUGHT ON CAMERA | Help us identify these suspects
CCTV footage captured individuals attempting to steal infrastructure in the area before the incident that damaged three manholes and part of the roadway.
We urge residents and business owners to work with law enforcement by sharing any information that could help identify those involved. Your tip-off could help bring those responsible to justice and protect our communities from infrastructure-related crime.
If you recognise the individuals or have relevant information, please report it to SAPS or the City’s law enforcement agencies.
I will be joining Newzroom Afrika for a conversation on Understanding Municipal Governance & Accountability, unpacking the role of political leadership, the responsibilities of municipalities and the importance of building capable, responsive local government.

GBV is not a private matter. It is a societal crisis that demands collective action. Yesterday, we launched the City of Johannesburg’s Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) Strategy, strengthening our commitment to prevention, survivor support, coordinated interventions and accountability.
We cannot afford to normalise violence or wait until another life is lost. The work starts with all of us. in our homes, communities, institutions and across all spheres of government.
Johannesburg must be a city where women and children are safe, protected and treated with dignity.
Our inspectors and law enforcement officers must be at the forefront of the fight against Gender-Based Violence. We must work together to strengthen our response, protect women and children, and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
The fight against GBV requires all of us to act.
Today, the City of Johannesburg launches its Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) Strategy, following its approval by Council.
This marks an important step in strengthening the City’s coordinated response to GBVF.

The 500 trees planted across Orlando West, Meadowlands and Senaoane are more than a celebration of Arbour Month they are an investment in cleaner air, healthier communities and future generations.
Soweto’s transformation has shown that greening is not an afterthought; it is a catalyst for development. More than 200,000 trees planted through Greening Soweto helped create jobs, support local businesses and restore dignity to communities. Today, we continue that legacy.
As we build a climate-resilient Johannesburg, every tree becomes part of a bigger mission: tackling air pollution, strengthening our urban forest and improving the quality of life for every resident.
These are the voices behind the 300 homes handed over today at Jabulani Parcel K in Soweto #JoburgUpdates

At Bophelong Clinic in Doornkop, we’re building a purpose-designed facility spanning approximately 1,790m²—a space created to deliver healthcare with dignity, efficiency and accessibility.
The story isn’t only about the size of the building. A modern clinic must seamlessly bring together patient flow, consultation rooms, treatment spaces, staff facilities and essential services into one environment that works for everyone.
Good healthcare infrastructure is more than construction. It’s thoughtful design that helps people, spaces and services work together to improve lives.

The City of Johannesburg has intensified its Inner City enforcement campaign as City Power targets five suspected hijacked bad buildings in Doornfontein and New Doornfontein that collectively owe R4.96 million for electricity.
These operations are about more than recovering revenue. They are about protecting lives by removing illegal electricity connections, tackling electricity theft, and preventing overloaded networks, fires and other dangerous safety risks.
The scale of the challenge remains significant. City Power is monitoring 108 problematic buildings linked to illegal connections, unsafe electrical installations and non-payment, with outstanding debt exceeding R114 million.
Working alongside law enforcement and other City departments, we will continue taking targeted action against those who undermine our electricity network while ensuring that residents have access to safe, legal and reliable electricity.

Let us not forget that he appointed him as Group Head of GFIS. Report was never tabled before Council. In terms of the process applicable to Section 57 appointments & related governance matters, Council oversight is a critical step, yet Mash man never took the report to Council.
Let us not forget that @HermanMashaba flouted recruitment processes when he was Mayor of Joburg to recruit Shadrack Sibiya despite failing competency assessments.
His “unfinished business” is this sort of corruption.
Earlier today i joined the multidisciplinary High-Impact Blitz Inspection at African Electroplating alongside Deputy Ministers Jomo Sibiya and Mmapaseka Steve Letsike to ensure that our laws are enforced and that workers are protected.
The inspection uncovered serious compliance failures, including unsafe working conditions, inadequate ventilation in areas where hazardous chemical fumes are present, rusted lifting equipment, missing emergency eye-wash stations and safety showers, non-compliant gas installations, shortcomings in labour compliance and record verification, and critical emergency safety concerns, including the need for a compliant second emergency escape route.
The relevant authorities have issued the necessary compliance directives, and operations will only resume once critical safety requirements have been met.
No worker should have to choose between earning a living and working in unsafe conditions. We will continue enforcing the law without fear or favour while supporting businesses to achieve full compliance, protect jobs and build a safer, stronger Johannesburg.

Today, 300 completed homes were handed over to qualifying beneficiaries as part of the second phase of housing allocations at Jabulani Parcel K in Soweto.
The mixed-development housing project involved comprehensive township establishment and the upgrading of bulk and link infrastructure. This milestone reflects the continued commitment across government to expanding access to quality, dignified housing and building better communities.
On Wednesday, 23 September, we take our multidisciplinary High Impact Blitz Inspections across the City of Johannesburg.
Together with Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Jomo Sibiya, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Njabulo Nzuza, and Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Mmapaseka Steve Letsike, we are strengthening compliance, enforcing the law, and intensifying the fight against crime.
