It’s hard to see, but this is what it looks like after we shake. The orchard floor is mostly solid nuts, though this is also a low producing block in its last year of existence. The nuts will dry for a week or so before we sweep into rows.

Almonds are getting close! Fresh raw almonds are the best. So if you know an almond farmer, get you a handful before they’re harvested. – at Orland, CA

The harvested part of almonds have 3 parts: the hull, the shell, and the edible meat. Hulls are cattle feed. Shells are livestock bedding. Meats are eaten by us! But when they calculate the amount of water to produce a lb of nuts, they don’t factor in the other usable parts.
