I commend the @followlasg and @Lawma_gov for the swift prosecution of Nelly Monday, 53, who was arrested on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 in Meiran for dumping refuse in a drainage channel during rainfall, and sentenced to one month in prison the very next day by the Magistrate Court in Bolade, Oshodi.
This is exactly the kind of decisive action we need.
For too long we have treated environmental violations as “minor offenses.” But the reality is clear: dumping in drains leads to flooding, disease outbreaks, destruction of property, and loss of lives. The effects are lasting, and the cost is paid by all of us.
By treating this as a criminal offence and prosecuting swiftly, Lagos has sent a strong message: the environment is not negotiable.
Enough of talking. Now is the time for more action.
Other states must take a cue from Lagos. Climate action starts with enforcement. It starts with holding individuals accountable. It starts with protecting our drainage, our streets, and our future.
Lagos has set the standard. Let others follow.

I had the worst experience ever with @greenafrica today. I’m writing this with tears in my eyes and a cranky 8-month-old baby in my arms.
We left home 7:00am for a 10:00am Abuja-Ilorin flight. Boarding was supposed to be 10.02
Nothing was communicated until past 11

New week, same values: be kind, be respectful, be professional.
How you treat people says more about you than your job title ever will.
Ocean animals don’t hear the warnings about plastic that we do.
It can pollute their habitats, entangle their bodies, and even be mistaken as food. They are facing the consequences of a crisis that they did not create.
Take action this #PlasticFreeJuly: oceana.ly/4eCQAFQ
Bioluminescent marine life looks otherworldly. 💙 ✨
A chemical reaction in their body produces a glowing effect, making these animals appear to glow in the dark!
This ability to mimic the ambient light of the ocean helps them hide in open water from predators lurking below.
Plastic does NOT belong in America's beloved national parks.
Pollution greatly impacts the treasured wildlife and ecosystems that make these natural spaces so special.
This #PlasticFreeJuly, tell U.S. Congress to step up for our parks. 👉 oceana.ly/4jtdxMn

In Alalubosa, Ilorin, residents set up their own desk for reporting gender-based violence. It has handled at least 12 cases. Ten of them are resolved.
The community's Mogaji chairs it. Not long ago, that same authority would have called a case like this a private family matter and left it there.
That shift is the subject of Battles in the Shadow, a new documentary from BBYDI.
Over two years, with support from the Ford Foundation, BBYDI worked through the authority that already exists in these communities. Traditional rulers, community leaders and community security structures took the lead on preventing gender-based violence. In Alalubosa and Agbarere, that work now looks like marriage agreements, community charters against violence, and reporting desks.
At the state level, the Emir of Ilorin contributed the foreword to BBYDI's GBV Prevention Toolkit, available in English and Yoruba.
The film is honest about how much is unfinished. A signed charter changes what a community tolerates faster than it changes what people believe. The leaders in the film know this. They are taking responsibility for their part of it.

Over the last few days there have been argument about what was witnessed in Lagos last week Sunday if it was flood or flash flooding with many residents calling for the head of the govt.
In this interview published in today's @MobilePunch @followlasg comm for environment and water resources @tokunbo_wahab
spoke about ongoing investments in drainage infrastructure, enforcement against illegal developments, and why residents must take greater responsibility for keeping drainage channels free of waste

Despite @NGRPresident's bold #climate commitments like the Nigerian Gas Flare Commercialisation Programme #NGFCP launched in 2022 to achieve zero routine flaring within a decade, and also being a signatory to the #GlobalGasFlaringReductionPartnership with a target to flare-out by #2030, and a national target of 2025 and initiatives like the EU-German Flare4Value project and Decade of Gas policy also exist.
Yet in ONELGA, @rvsg_ng the flares still burn and the air is still toxic.
This fresh report, supported by @CJIDAfrica under its #MethaneEmissionsReportingFellowship, spotlights the human cost of gas flaring and why vulnerable communities remain exposed.

Last week, I participated in the Truth at the Ballot regional workshop in Lagos, organised by @FactC_Africa, @fiap_es and the EU EPSG Project.
Great learning on #OSINT, AI-assisted verification, #factchecking, election reporting and combating misinformation ahead of the #Osunpoll and the #2027 elections.
The message is simple: Facts first. Democracy depends on it.

On Matchday 33 of the 2025–26 Premier League season, Arsenal played against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
The game ended 2–1 in favour of City. At full-time, Manchester City players were doing victory laps while rival fans flooded social media with posts about Arsenal bottling the league.
But in the middle of all the gloom, one man lifted his head, looked at his captain Martin Ødegaard and said:
“It’s not done.”
That man was Declan Rice.
Arsenal went on to win every remaining league game, storming to the Premier League title and finishing 7 points clear of Manchester City.
But why do I look back on Matchday 33 with such nostalgia?
Because ladies and gentlemen, it’s been exactly 33 days since Arsenal won the league title.
