One of the really fun things about @sportfun is that the contrarian plays can REALLY pay off. 👀 For those who are unfamiliar with FDF, you win tournament points (TP) by owning shares of the players who are the top-5 scorers at their positions each tournament (top 3 for GKs). The highest scorer will earn the most tournament points, the second-highest scorer will earn the second-most, and so on... The number of tournament points YOU win is based on how many of the active shares of each player you own. This is the key part that many people ignore. The clearest example came during the latest tournament: The top 5 forwards were: 1. Mason Greenwood 226 fantasy points 2. Lamine Yamal 215 3. Jonathan Burkhardt 200 4. Harry Kane 135 5. Pedro Neto 133 So, you'd think owning a bunch of Greenwood and Yamal would get you the most rewards because they were the two highest scorers. Not so fast... Active shares of the top 5 forwards: 1. Greenwood 3,084,684 2. Yamal 3,465,186 3. Burkhardt 1,495,824 4. Kane 3,388,981 5. Neto 1,261,314 Some of you already see where this is going... Before we progress, we also have to remember that each player's share price is different, as more popular players like Yamal and Kane trade for higher prices than guys like Burkhardt. Heading into the tournament, the top-5 forwards' prices per share were roughly: Greenwood $0.037 Yamal $0.125 Burkhardt $0.013 Kane $0.087 Neto $0.025 Using the TP/$100 that @adotjdott pioneered, we can see the following payouts for the top-5 forwards this tournament: • $100 of Greenwood would have won 500 TP based on his active shares (3.08m), share price ($0.037), and finishing position (first) • $100 of Yamal = 78 TP • $100 of Burkhardt = 1,160 TP • $100 Kane = 38 TP • $100 of Neto = 181 TP No, that's not a typo on Burkhardt. Because he has so few active shares (no one's been buying them) and such a low share price (because no one thinks he's good enough to own), the holders of his shares reaped HUGE rewards compared to the others, and he didn't even finish as the highest-scoring forward (or even second). The $100 of Burkhardt alone is enough to earn 2 Epic packs, which consist of player shares of four players between 168-200 shares per player. The value of each pack ranges pretty significantly because 200 shares of Yamal is certainly way different than 168 shares of Burkhardt, but you're realistically looking at a range of $20 to $100. A big range, sure, but also that's just from Burkhardt. And you can, of course, argue that Yamal is way more likely to finish in the top 5 than Burkhardt, and you'd be right. Yamal has made the top 5 in 8 of the 14 tournaments he's been eligible for, while Burkhardt is only 3 for 17. But don't forget Yamal won 78 TP if you owned $100 worth of shares for finishing second this tournament while Burkhardt won 1,160 for finishing third. Yamal would need to place where he did 15 times at that rewards payout to equal 1 time for Burkhardt. If you're read this far you're already ahead of the curve.
