🚨 New US sanctions against @IntlCrimCourt judges Gocha Lordkipanidze (Georgia) & Erdenebalsuren Damdin (Mongolia) are a blatant attempt to intimidate the #ICC and obstruct accountability for atrocity crimes in #Palestine and beyond.

FIDH actively participated in #ASP24 in The Hague last week. For the first time, @IntlCrimCourt States Parties collectively condemned sanctions against CSOs and UN experts. They also issued an unprecedented joint declaration expressing solidarity with the Court.

Excellent initiative from Mexico on behalf of 59 states, condemning US sanctions against the ICC, its staff and those that support it.
More of this please. Instead of the abdication and the deals; we want to see governments resisting and speaking up for what matters, including international
Justice.

📢 With the @UN_OIOS report on alleged sexual misconduct and witness intimidation and/or retaliation against the ICC Prosecutor forthcoming, we are re-circulating our 28 May explainer. It now includes a clarification on the powers of the Deputy Prosecutors under Art. 42(2) RS in combination with Rule 11 RPE.

✅ We welcome the ASP Bureau’s positive response to our recommendations: an independent ad hoc panel of judges has been appointed to provide a legal assessment of the OIOS findings and is ready to commence its work once the report is received. ⚖️
📌 Important questions remain. Transparency will be essential to avoid damaging media leaks, ensure clarity, and maintain trust in the process. Findings must be shared with the complainant, the accused, Court staff, and the public in ways that protect both safety and due process.
🛡️ Protecting the complainant and whistleblowers from retaliation must remain a top priority through the entire process and after the OIOS report is released. The complainant and staff must be able to engage safely and confidently.
🔎 We will continue to monitor developments and advocate for a fair, transparent, and victim-centred process. We call on States Parties to do the same, to ensure the ICC upholds the highest standards of integrity and accountability.

“Justice for Darfur, at last.”
FIDH and its member organisations — the African Centre for Justice and Peace Studies (ACJPS) and the Sudan Human Rights Monitor (SHRM) — welcome the historic conviction of Ali Muhammad Ali Abd-Al-Rahman (“Ali Kushayb”) by the @IntlCrimCourt.
On 6 October 2025, the #ICC found him guilty of crimes against humanity and war crimes committed in #Darfur, #Sudan. This is the first-ever ICC trial addressing atrocities in Darfur, nearly twenty years after the crimes took place. It is also the ICC’s first conviction for gender persecution.
Nearly 1,600 victims took part in the proceedings — their courage and testimonies made accountability possible.
But justice is far from complete. Four other ICC-indicted suspects remain at large, including former Sudan President Omar al-Bashir wanted for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. Survivors in Darfur continue to endure severe consequences of the conflict, including displacement, poverty, and trauma.
We call for:
- Full cooperation of Sudanese authorities and ICC States Parties to execute outstanding arrest warrants
- Victim-centred ICC reparations that restore dignity and meet community needs
This verdict must be a stepping stone, not the end, of accountability for Darfur.

In many regions, organised criminal groups have turned disappearance into a systematic tool of terror. Too often, this happens with the acquiescence or even complicity of state officials. Even where governments are not directly involved, investigations are weak, prosecutions rare, and families left without answers. The result: a devastating erosion of public trust and a humanitarian crisis that extends far beyond individual victims.

Joint Global Call to #SaveTheICC
🚨 Reliable sources indicate the US plans to sanction the #ICC as an institution.
Such sanctions would be an all-out assault on international justice, leaving victims without a last resort for accountability.

No war, conflict, or occupation can ever justify enforced disappearance.
#Justice demands #accountability, independent investigation, and, above all, the return of the disappeared to their loved ones. The world must not look away.

Disappeared in Conflict. Silenced by Fear.
From #Ukraine to #Syria, #Palestine and beyond, enforced disappearances are used as weapons of war and occupation. Families are left without answers, communities are torn apart, and entire identities are erased.
