Be Katie Zacharia:
> Graduate from Pepperdine Law in 2011.
> Reportedly fail the California bar and never retake it.
> Move to China. Work at a law firm.
> Build a career in conservative media.
> Describe yourself as a lawyer.
> Hold the title of “general counsel.”
> At 41, get named White House press secretary.
> Pretty significant promotion.
> Unfortunately, it includes a background check conducted by the entire internet.
> Tuesday: First White House briefing.
> Questions arise about your legal credentials.
> Where are you admitted?
> Normally a pretty short conversation.
> Texas. Florida. California.
> Yours requires an explanation involving China.
> By Thursday, explain that you were told you could call yourself a “lawyer,” but not an “attorney” or “esquire.”
> Your career is now depending on a distinction most people use a thesaurus to avoid.
> Appear on Hannity.
> You were hired to explain the president’s positions.
> You are explaining your résumé.
> Friday: Reports say you’re fired.
> Five days in the job.
> First briefing Tuesday. Out Friday.
> I’ve had longer email chains about whether to use “reasonable” or “commercially reasonable.”
> Everyone sees a career catastrophe.
> Fair.
> But look at what survives the termination.
> National name recognition.
> Footage behind the White House podium.
> A story every political podcast can ask you about.
> And a new line on your résumé: Former White House press secretary.
> No semantic debate required for that one.
> Actually held the job.
> The conference introduction probably won’t mention that it was shorter than the hotel’s cancellation policy.
> A book? A podcast? Paid speeches?
> Nothing guaranteed.
> But “former White House press secretary tells her side” is a much easier pitch than “political commentator available for bookings.”
> At 41, lose a job in five days.
> Potentially spend the next 20 years being introduced by it.
The job didn’t work out. But I suspect things will for her!
Katie Zacharia has been fired as White House press secretary after less than one week on the job.

The corruption crisis is an affordability crisis.
When private equity buys up homes, you pay more in rent.
When airlines and ticket sellers face less oversight, you pay junk fees on top of junk fees.
When drug companies lobby to keep prices high, you pay more at the pharmacy.
When monopolies get a pass, you pay more at the store.
When billionaires and big corporations buy influence in Washington, they get the rules they want—while you foot the bill.

In her new book, Kerry Kennedy traces the life of her mother, Ethel Kennedy, including the trauma of RFK’s assassination and a lifetime of activism.
“All of us… continue to experience PTSD,” from her father’s killing, Kerry tells me. But her parents and uncle also taught her the value of public service: they “believed that one person could make a difference and that each of us should try.”

In less than a week, Trump’s newest lying mouthpiece was fired.
She was never an attorney. She never passed the bar, and from what we’ve seen, reading seems to be a struggle for her too.
As an attorney licensed in both Arkansas and Texas, I had to earn my credentials.
The American people deserve QUALIFIED public servants. That standard should apply to everyone, including the man occupying the White House.

Groceries, gas, utilities, healthcare, and housing costs are all out of control. Democrats are ready to fix it.
Congress should still be in session to tackle the high cost of living, but Trump and MAGA Republicans just don't care.

May we see more of this.

At the SIMANDOU Guinea event, reviewing the approaches being implemented by the Republic of Guinea to ensure value addition, infrastructure and jobs, from one of the world’s richest iron ore to steel discoveries; and expanding this to look at the issue of how Africa adds value to and manufactures products based on its critical minerals. Engaging in a fireside chat with Minister of Economy, Finance and Budget of Guinea, H.E. Mariama @SyllaCire. Kudos to Johanna Leblanc and Aisha Biro Diallo for their persistence in ensuring my participation in this important event. Also with Minister of Planning and International Cooperation of Guinea, H.E. Easy to be snarky about the warp speed hiring-to-firing of @KatieZacharia but it really calls into question the process by which she was hired to speak for the @POTUS, apparently without the most basic vetting.
Seems like the Casting Director-in-Chief liked her on Fox News, valued her unswerving loyalty and picked her.

The Mother Emanuel AME Church community has endured unimaginable tragedy and loss.
Yet their faith, warmth, and welcoming spirit shone through on this beautiful Charleston morning.
Somehow, they even discovered my favorite pie and surprised me with a freshly baked pecan pie.
I left deeply moved by their generosity, their resilience, and their extraordinary grace.
