Imagine if Europe, in the days after 9/11, had cleared its throat and announced: We have struck a tremendous deal with Osama bin Laden. We have lifted the sanctions on his organization, so he is now free to trade on the open market and bankroll his war against the United States. Bush must step down. The man has no cards. Has he even looked at his hand? But no. Europe did nothing of the sort. Europe did not sit down with a mass murderer and come home gushing about what a strong and reasonable fellow he turned out to be. Europe laced up its boots, flew to Afghanistan, stood shoulder to shoulder with the Americans and hunted that bearded wretch through every godforsaken mountain in the country, because that is what you do when a friend gets hit, and handing the attacker a shopping list while telling the victim to surrender is what you do when you have lost your mind.

As Premier League execs prepare to take legal action against Manchester City, spare a thought for @FCUnitedMcr whose plans to build a ground in Newton Heath were thwarted at the same time as Abu Dhabi ‘regeneration’ of east Manchester was gathering pace. nowtmuchtosay.wordpress.com/…

Brilliant post. Giving bonuses must be due to agreed criteria and this would potentially include maximising the return to the owners by banning as many STH as possible? Otherwise, for an organisation so committed towards cost control and revenue maximisation, why would INEOS do it?
We have all seen the job currently advertised at Manchester United for a Supporter Escalations Executive: careers.manutd.com/en/postin… A few lines in this spec speak volumes about the club's current direction. The role explicitly asks the successful candidate to: "Independently own a high-volume caseload of complex investigations, sanctions, appeals and escalations..." Admitting that sanctions and escalations are now a "high-volume caseload" confirms what many of us feared: the recent waves of account restrictions on Season Ticket holders and Members are not isolated errors. It is an intentional, sustained strategy to mass-screen supporter accounts. Even more concerning is the inclusion of an Annual Incentive Scheme to reward performance. For an operational role tasked with investigating and suspending supporters, what performance metrics are actually being rewarded? When incentives in this type of environment are driven by case turnaround speed, clearing tickets in time for matchday resale, and defending sanction decisions against appeal, where is the incentive to actually listen to innocent supporters caught out by flawed club data?

Every day it gets better and better 🤩
The Treasury Committee have written to the chief executive of HM Revenue and Customs to ask about the tax implications of the Premier League’s investigation into Manchester City. HMRC could investigate whether City paid the right amount of tax and national insurance during the nine seasons they have been found guilty of financial rule breaches.
