Isaac Newton spent decades huffing mercury fumes in a Cambridge cellar, grinding lead into a worthless sludge while praying to the gods of alchemy. Now Marathon can use its reactor blanket to turn mercury-198 into stable gold by the ton. The alchemist will lose to the atom.
Last month, we demonstrated high-rate alchemy: turning mercury into real, stable gold, beating CERN’s record by a factor of 10. Last week, we enriched isotopes in the world’s most powerful plasma centrifuge, beating the Soviet record that stood for 40 years. Now, we’re building a fusion reactor in San Francisco to achieve record power density.

It’s wild how many GPs try to argue with me after I pass. I’m not sure what outcome they’re hoping for, but it’s never changed my mind. The best thing a GP can do is go prove me wrong and keep me updated. That has a much better shot at changing my mind. We don’t always get it right, but getting hostile after a pass only ever makes me feel better about passing.

We noticed this early in the Thiel Fellowship.
One of the biggest problems with sending children to public school is that they learn the habits of dependence - be where you’re told, do what you’re told, accept what you’re told to be the truth. The system is not designed to produce independent people.

A girl just said she tried to get rejected 1000 times in 2025 and ended up being cast in plays, winning pageants, securing hella paid brand deals, and appearing in commercials. This is your sign to chase rejection to the point of "accidental" success. You'll be surprised.

There is a network of small farms upstate that sell to Michelin-starred restaurants and I’ve been trying to get them to do a farm box to households in NYC. They’re doing a pilot. Sign up link below. The apple tree is from the 1800s: God has spent centuries perfecting these apples.

they say you need to "re-parent" yourself once you have kids and damn if that isn't true. I was feeling downcast about my cute mother daughter Halloween costume idea, and I almost decided to scrap it and do nothing instead. Then I realized the reason why was because I was imagining my daughter as a hostile teen looking back on the photos some day. I imagined her rolling her eyes and feeling annoyed that her mom was assuming a closeness and sentimentality that never had any hope of materializing between us. and sure there's all kinds of reasons this is coming up for me--from the relationship I had with my own mom as a teen, to the struggles I have right now being a step-mom to a teen daughter, to the implicit assumption I carry into any relationship that I'm destined to be rejected--but I don't need to immediately resolve any of this. what I need is to touch grass. My baby is 4mo. I am currently the light of her life. Her face brightens like the sun when she sees me or hears me. she's snuggled on my chest sleeping right now. why would I pre-reject myself and deny us both a cute memory to look back on out of fear we won't want to look back on it?? I'm going to do the cute mother daughter costume, and I'm going to do it to capture the real bond we *already* have right now. and let adolescence bring what it will.

Today we’re launching @neomatterai (YC F26), the operating system for in-house legal teams. Neomatter picks up legal requests wherever they come from (email, Slack, Salesforce, etc) and does all the work. Then the lawyer reviews, approves, and sends. We thought legal could use some change. Book a demo and see it for yourself!

The first movement of β€œSummer” from Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons… on an accordion?! This is genuinely amazing.
Hundreds of years ago, a man invented this magnificent musical instrument. Then, another man composed this wondrous piece of music. And now, here I am, witnessing this brilliant performance. Life is truly a miracle.

Def interested in funding this
There will be an American literary renaissance, but it won’t happen in academia. MFA programs have wrecked contemporary American literature. The renaissance will happen in small collectives of independent writers who start their own presses and journals. I think it’s already beginning.

An unfiltered look inside the Thiel Fellowship with @DStrachman: review.firstround.com/inside…
Sixteen years ago, when @William_Blake and I were on the founding team of the Thiel Fellowship, we called it an older young person’s homeschool program. In a very Thiel-ian way, we built something that fostered independent thinking by giving young people permission to explore what interested them in an environment that trusted them to make decisions and execute on their work. @firstround’s editorial team wrote a really thoughtful piece about those first years of the fellowship. It also covers my journey β€” going from school founder to handing out $100K grants to teenagers. So wonderful to chronicle that very special time that has become the genesis of 1517 πŸ’— (Link in comments)
